Nike's Golf 360 App Comes To Android After Taking Its Sweet Time On iOS

Look, we realize that some companies don't have the resources to develop apps for multiple platforms, and in some cases (some very limited cases) it makes sense to publish on the mobile OS that has 12% of the market. But Nike isn't one of those companies. And so it still kind of miffs us when they take two years to bring a sports app like Golf 360 to the Play Store.

But enough about Nike's continuing failure at proper cross-platform support. Golf 360 is a training app aimed at aspiring pros. The most useful portion of the app is the golf scoreboard, which supports up to four players and comes pre-loaded with "26,000 courses" from North America and Europe.

[New App] Official PGA Championship 2013 App Chips In To The Play Store, No Tablets Allowed

The NFL pre-season started this week. That doesn't have anything to do with the PGA, but I thought it might liven up this story about a golf app.

PGA Championship is the official Android app for the eponymous sporting event. It's sponsored by Mercedes-Benz, and by "sponsored," I mean that there appears to be a photo of a car that I can't afford on a lot of the app screens. That sponsorship does come with some nice perks, namely live score updates and free video coverage of the championship, no cable subscription required. Of course, the "Countdown to Rochester" screen probably would have been more useful if the app hadn't been published late yesterday, August 8th, on the opening day of the tournament.

Motorola's MOTOACTV smartwatch, which the manufacturer bills as the "world's first GPS fitness tracker with smart mp3 player, all in one," began receiving a software update yesterday, bringing the device's standard model up to version 1.7.3, while its golf-oriented counterpart ascended to version 1.7.2.

Software version 1.7.3 includes a handful of improvements, including more flexible workout planning, the ability to create dedicated heart rate zones for different activities, Facebook and Twitter viewing capabilities, easier Wi-Fi setup, and more.
