'SwingTip' Attaches To Your Golf Club, Shows Why You Suck At Golf Right On Your Phone's Screen

So, you like to play golf. Ever wish there were a way to see how you can improve your swing? Thanks to a new Bluetooth accessory called SwingTip, now you can.

It's pretty simple: install the companion app, put SwingTip on your club, pair it with your phone, and swing away. The unit automatically detects your swing and and sends the info back to your phone or tablet. From there, it can give you all the info you've ever wanted to know about your game, including a full animation, club head speed, swing path, club face angle, impact zone, and tempo.

Motorola MOTOACTV Updated To Version 7.10/7.11, Bring A Host Of Bug Fixes

Motorola has released yet another pair of updates for their Android-based sports watch, the MOTOACTV, bringing the version number up to either 7.10 or 7.11, depending on your model. The 7.10 update is only for devices that already have the golf features installed, while the 7.11 update is only for some versions of the 8 GB ACTV that do not have the golf features. Fortunately, you don't have to do anything to determine which update to download - simply plug your ACTV into your computer and the MOTOCAST software will download the appropriate update.

Both version of the update include the following bug fixes:

Fix “Application Force Close” in WORKOUT and NOTIFICATIONS.

Official U.S. Open Golf Championship App Released With Live Video, Scoring Updates And ESPN Radio

With the 2012 U.S. Open right around the corner - things get under way tomorrow - The United States Golf Association has released an official Android app to allow fans to follow the action on the go right from their phones.

The app is full of information for users to sink their teeth into, from full course details and information about each hole to biographies for each player competing.

Although the application is available to everyone, live video functionality is only available to view within the United States. For those of you in the US, you can look forward to live marquee groups and hole coverage in the app.

MOTOACTV Updated To Software Version 1.7.2/1.7.3 – Enhanced Workout Planning, Better Accuracy In Tow

Motorola's MOTOACTV smartwatch, which the manufacturer bills as the "world's first GPS fitness tracker with smart mp3 player, all in one," began receiving a software update yesterday, bringing the device's standard model up to version 1.7.3, while its golf-oriented counterpart ascended to version 1.7.2.

Software version 1.7.3 includes a handful of improvements, including more flexible workout planning, the ability to create dedicated heart rate zones for different activities, Facebook and Twitter viewing capabilities, easier Wi-Fi setup, and more.

The golf-centered MOTOACTV's update is largely the same, but includes (surprise) added golf functionality:

To improve game tracking, we added tee location options, more choices for ball lie marking and the ability to track the distance of your putts.

Motorola's MOTOACTV Watch Gets An Update To Version 6.12/6.13, But Not All Devices Are Equal

Motorola has released a pair of updates for the MOTOACTV Android-based sports watch. The last round of updates came in March with new features for golfers. The new updates, versions 6.12 and 6.13, come with most of the same features, but there is a confusing split based on whether or not your device already has the golf features included.

Both updates contain enhancements and bug fixes including:

Improved calorie burn algorithm during cycling workout with heart rate monitor
Added Primary Activity selection during setup so your MOTOACTV is tailored to your primary sport
Improved watch performance after display wake up
Enhanced the way Album Lists are displayed
Improved connectivity with Wahoo BLE heart rate monitor

The golf-compatible MOTOACTV watches will also get:

Improved Golf club recommendation by widening the distance range
Improved calculation for total score after a golf round.

[Updated] Motorola Starts Rollout Of MOTOACTV Software Update v6.6 With Golf Features

Last week, Motorola announced a separate Golf edition of the MOTOACTV fitness tracker, due to start shipping the first week of April. The good news is that as of today, existing non-Golf MOTOACTVs are receiving the same software through an upgrade with version ~~6.5~~ 6.6, available via MOTOCAST. Update 4/2/12: Motorola pulled the 6.5 update and released 6.6 a few days later (today) instead. I am willing to bet 6.5 had some last-minute bugs.

Important note: Owners of the 8GB version will want to perform the update as soon as possible because it will be only offered for free until April 16th.

Gameloft Releases 'Let's Golf 3 HD' Into The Android Market Free Of Charge, But It Will Cost You Lots Of Space

Gameloft just pushed the third iteration of its Let's Golf HD series to the Android Market for the low price of free. For those uninitiated with Let's Golf, here's the nuts-and-bolts: you get to play golf in some outrageous places, like outer space or the Great Wall of China. Despite its cartoonish nature, it's quite graphically detailed -- everything from the green to the surrounding details is bright, vivid, and detailed.

Aside from the typical golf gameplay, Let's Golf has some nice features, like multiplayer support so you can you play against your friends, either locally over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, or even all on the same device.
