T-Mobile Rolling Out Software Update To HTC's Amaze 4G – Build 1.43.531.3 Brings WiFi Calling, Stability Improvements

HTC Amaze 4G users should be expecting an over-the-air update to roll out soon, according to T-Mobile's support documentation. The update carries software build 1.43.531.3 (still Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread), adding IMS WiFi calling, Google Music compatibility, and various stability/functionality enhancements.

Users can check for the update manually by hitting Menu > About Phone > HTC Software Updates > Check. Otherwise, you have only to sit back and wait for an OTA notification before you can begin enjoying WiFi calling on your Amaze 4G.

Gingerbread Now Running On 50% Of Android Devices, Just In Time For Ice Cream Sandwich

Google has released the latest of its monthly Android version distribution charts, and for the first time Android 2.3 Gingerbread is present on over half of all Android devices. A milestone, to be sure.

We also get a look at the end success rate of Honeycomb (a tablet-only version of Android), which achieved a mere 2.5% piece of the Android pie since the first Honeycomb device release back in February. Android 1.5 and 1.6 (Cupcake and Donut) have continued their march toward extinction, commanding only 2.1% of the Android population total.

It looks like Gingerbread is finally getting ready to (officially) make its way to the Droid Charge, and, judging by the build number (EP4), it seems to be a slightly updated version of the build that was leaked earlier this month (EP4P).

I guess Sprint and Samsung decided it was finally time to cater to the needs of all the Epic owners out there, as the official Gingerbread OTA update is officially rolling out. [Leak] Gingerbread Build EP4P For The Samsung Droid Charge

Ah, the Droid Charge -- the Droid that never should have been. It was the first LTE Droid to hit Verzon and... well, its accomplishments stopped there. In fact, this once-flagship device is still running Froyo, rendering some of its hardware basically useless (like the front facing camera). LG Revolution Support Documents Updated, Gingerbread Update Should Start Rolling Out Today

It seems like it was just yesterday when I mentioned that LG should tend to the Revolution's lack of Gingerbread, and here it is. Verizon just updated the Revolution's support documentation with all the details of the upcoming update, which includes Android 2.3.x.

The update offers little outside of the bump up to Android 2.3.x (which is a wonderful upgrade in itself), but it does bring a few fixes dealing with Email and messaging, as well as a handful of general device enhancements.

[Updated] Exclusive: Gingerbread Build 2.11.605.5 For The HTC Thunderbolt, Fixes Several Issues From Official Gingerbread OTA

Update: Well, what do you know -- Verizon just updated the support documentation for the Tbolt to reflect the newest build... and it just so happens to be 2.11.605.5. Yep, the exact same as this build. Looks like this is the official OTA, folks. Check out the full changelog here.

Thunderbolt owners have been waiting a long while to get Gingerbread -- too long, considering this phone was once Verizon's flagship.

The updates is rolling out in typical OTA fashion, and brings a few new features and fixes to the device (aside from Gingerbread, of course):

  • Screen will brighten upon touch when phone is docked during a voice call
  • Proximity sensor accurately senses presence during a voice call
  • Auto-signature can be enabled within SMS/MMS messages (but on behalf of everyone in the world, I would like to ask that you don't use this feature.
