Smart Office Plus From PICSEL Now Free On GetJar Gold (Previously $9.99)

You know what you need? Another office suite on your phone or tablet. Or maybe just an office suite. Of course, you probably know that office suites aren't the cheapest apps on the Market, either - most range from $10 to $30, and if you missed OfficeSuite Pro or QuickOffice when they were free in the Amazon Appstore, then you're either stuck waiting for another freebie to come along or forced to shell out the coin to get pick one up.

There is a bright side, though: Smart Office Plus from PICSEL just went free on GetJar Gold. Smart Office is a full-featured office suite that allows you to create and edit MS Office docs, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Push Notifications For Updated Android Apps Coming Soon To The GetJar App Store

While the GetJar Appstore has its advantages, like GetJar Gold for example, it has been lacking one important feature that both the Android Market and Amazon Appstore have: push notification for app updates. In the past, when you downloaded an app from GetJar, the only way of knowing if the app had been updated was by going directly to that apps listing in GetJar.

This put the GetJar App Store at a clear disadvantage over other app markets, as most users aren't willing to manually check the listing for every single installed app. Fortunately, the GetJar team has recognized this issue and are now beta testing push notifications in the latest version of the GetJar store (v 3.5).

How Getjar's New Gold Program Is Treating Its Participating Developers, As Told By One Of Them

Until recently, Amazon's Appstore for Android has been the only game in town when it comes to (legally) obtaining paid apps for free. Getjar has changed that, however, by beginning the Getjar Gold Program which offers an entire catalogue of paid apps absolutely free and without ads. It would seem that Getjar's new program is a huge success, at least in the case of one development company.

Mobisoft, developers of Imperio RDP remote desktop client, released a press statement recently reporting on the company's experience thus far with Getjar Gold, boasting "three times the revenue" in its first week as part of the program over revenue generated by the Android Market.

[Updated] Remember Paper Camera? It's Now Free On GetJar

A few weeks ago, we covered an incredible new camera app called Paper Camera. It's unique in nature because it offers amazing real-time effects (as opposed to post-processed effects, like most other third-party camera apps), like cartoon, sketch, comic book, old printer, neon, bleaching, half-time, noir, newspaper, and more.

The app is normally a couple of bucks in the Android Market, ~~but for this week, GetJar is offering the full version absolutely free of charge.~~ I stand corrected - Paper Camera, along with all other GetJar Gold apps, will remain free indefinitely!

This is definitely one of the most unique camera apps that I've ever seen, and now there is no reason not to have it installed.

Apple To GetJar: "Stop Using 'App Store' Or We'll Sue You" GetJar: "No."

Apple's at it again, this time back on its "We own the words 'App Store'" reign of terror. While a judge denied Apple's request to bar Amazon from using "Appstore" in a preliminary injunction before the issue is decided at trial, that isn't stopping the world's most infamously litigious tech giant from going after everyone and their brother using the words.

And until the Amazon trial is settled or decided (it's on the docket - for October 2012), Apple is free to go about threatening and pursuing more legal action, even though its trademark on the words "App Store" remains actively contested (by Microsoft) in its bid for certification at the USPTO.

Today is just getting better and better with all these early presents. Only a few hours ago Atrix owners got their bootloaders unlocked a good couple of weeks early, and now one of the most anticipated games in recent history, Cut The Rope (don't be confused by the clones), got released a day early as well.

Com2Us Ports A Popular iOS Game Slice It! Over To Android, Available Now Via GetJar

Whenever a game as polished as Slice It! comes out, you pretty much have no choice but to download and try it out - Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja are great examples of such games, and Slice It! from Com2Us does not disappoint. Not to be confused with Fruit Ninja-like games where you have to slice fruit in the air, in Slice It!, you have to divide various shapes into equal sizes in order to advance. Similar to Angry Birds, star ratings are given at the end of each level. My first impressions after seeing the graphics and the UI were most excellent, and I'm sure Slice It!

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare - Force Recon Now Available For Select Android Devices - And It's Free!

Thanks to @maxisma, AndroidSpin found that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare - Force Recon is now available for download via GetJar. The good news: it looks pretty damn fun - it's reminiscent of PaperBoy, but with a lot more shooting and blood. But there's bad news, as well: before you get too excited, you should know that there's a decent chance your device may not be supported. I haven't looked at the supported devices list thoroughly (it's long, I'm lazy), but it looks like you need a trackball to play.
