Smack in the middle of the holiday season, Gameloft has cut prices on just about all of its paid games in a "Holiday Frenzy." If you've got a couple dollars to spare and some time to kill, Gameloft likely has something you'll enjoy, slicing prices on everything from The Adventures of Tin Tin to Wild Blood down to a mere $0.99. Conspicuously absent from the sale is Modern Combat 4, but the 12 other deals make up for its exclusion (though this writer posits that the game may just be worth its $6.99 price tag).

Leave it to Disney to go all out like this. In a very rapid release of new apps, everyone's favorite kid-friendly distributor of films, TV shows, games and anything else that can empty parents' wallets has dropped on us three new titles. For starters, Nemo's Reef. This let's-call-it-a-game expands on the Finding Nemo franchise (naturally), and allows players to create their own underwater reef. You can customize the fish's home, add various characters from the movies including Gill, Dory, Bloat and Bubbles, and even plant a variety of seeds.

Parachute pants, big hair and pastel sport coats might not be the height of fashion these days, but ten years ago gamers were in the midst of a digital revival. Grand Theft Auto Vice City rode on the massive (and well-deserved) success of GTAIII with a fresh setting, a more character-driven story and a refined sandbox world that makes it a series favorite even today. Those who want to relive the glory days of the 1980s (and 2002) can download the game on Google Play for just five bucks.

If you're of the opinion that games these days are entirely too easy, what with automatic saves, regenerating health, and veritable labyrinths of handy chest-high walls, then you'll want to pick up side-scrolling classic Metal Slug. It harkens back to a simpler time (namely 1996) when men were men, women were women, and gigantic tanks bristling with missile launchers were waiting at the end of every level.

If you're unfamiliar with Metal Slug (and didn't pick up the somewhat more modern Metal Slug 3 when it came to the Play Store earlier this year) it's a side-scrolling shooter in the vein of Contra.

Are you feeling a little too normal? Want to feel more super? For the low price of $0.99 you can now pick up Marvel's Avengers Initiative from Google Play and get into that superhero mindset. This game is usually $4.99, so this is a substantial drop. It's not a perfect game, but maybe this price is the sweet spot.

Avengers Initiative is an action fighting game made in the mold of Infinity Blade.

The gravy train just keeps on  rolling for thrifty Android games. In addition to the dozens of titles on sale from other developers, retro specialist DotEmu has put all three of its Android titles on sale. You can pick up classic platformer Another World for $1 (75% off), shooter legend R-Type for a dollar (40% off), and shoot-em-up anthology Raiden Legacy for three bucks (40% off).

All three are solid games with 4+ stars on Google Play, well worth it if you're a fan of the original games or just the genres in question.

If you're a Final Fantasy fan, you'll want to get yourself over to the Play Store as soon as possible, because Square Enix has just released Final Fantasy II and Final Fantasy Dimensions for Android.

The titles don't come cheap; Final Fantasy II is priced at $7, whereas Dimensions will put you back $20, but considering how much similar games from Square on other platforms cost, it's not a terrible deal.

We see a lot of the same tropes repeated over and over in mobile games, but Sword & Sworcery is something fresh and new – at least to Android. After showing up in the Humble Bundle a few weeks back, this innovative title has made it to the Play Store.

Ask any mad scientist worth his fortress of evil: lasers are awesome, shark-mounted or otherwise. This has been the basis for many a shoot-em-up game (see our Hyperwave review for a good example) but they've been lamentably absent from the puzzle genre, until now. OverLight uses a series of lasers and prisms to mix up the conventions of falling block and match-3 puzzles, with no small amount of visual flair. It's available now on Google Play for one dollar.
