The once and future king of mini-consoles has made a bit of a splash in the news the last few weeks, but for those of you who actually own and use an OUYA, there's good news in the form of a software update. The company posted a full changelog to the official blog yesterday, and the third major update should be making its way to your console now if you don't have it already.

It's football season in America, and that means just one thing: a lot of very rich people are going to spend the next five months getting slightly richer. Oh, and a lot of people are going to have fun watching sports. Or playing them, as the case may be: Madden NFL 25 just landed in the Play Store. That's 25 as in the 25th anniversary of the first Madden video game - this year's release would otherwise be called Madden 2013 or similar.

Madden 25 mixes things up with a new control system, offering either the classic console-style joystick controls or new swipe controls.

Gamers were uneasy as soon as Ouya announced its Free the Games Fund a few months back. The goal was to encourage the development of Ouya-exclusive games by matching Kickstarter funds over $50,000, and also offering some extra incentives. After some high-profile scandals that brought to light at least one instance of admitted malfeasance, Ouya boss Julie Uhrman has announced some changes.

First and foremost, the cut off for matching funds has been lowered to $10,000.

It's not like apps are expensive compared to a lot of other items, some of which you probably get less use out of. Saving $0.99 on a game doesn't just mean you saved $0.99 – it means you won. You beat the system. Take that, establishment! Now you can fight the man with a new round of sales.

Yes, Angry Birds is back again. This time the sequel to the surprisingly fun Angry Birds Star Wars has dropped out of Hyperspace right in the middle of the Play Store. Angry Birds Star Wars II is based on the prequel films – you know, the ones that your inner child refuses to acknowledge.

There are over 30 playable characters in Angry Birds Star Wars II. Everyone from Mace Windu to Queen Amidala (for some reason) is included in the game this time.

Zombies are still cool, right? Even if they're not, Dead Trigger 2 could potentially tip the scales of trendiness in favor of the undead. The zombie shoot 'em up has been teased a few times, but now we've got a date. Madfinger Games will release Dead Trigger 2 on October 23 – just in time for Halloween.

The game will be optimized for Tegra 4 devices like the Shield and just announced Tegra Note devices, but any modern Android device should be able to get in on the fun.

Oh, not another physics puzzler. What is it this time? Bridge building? Water? Birds?! It's more upset birds, isn't it? No, this is something... different. Incredipede is a game with a simple premise – get the fruit and get to the exit. The way you get there is bizarre and interesting, and sometimes strangely beautiful. In each stage, the Incredipede transforms itself into a new organism to cope with the challenges presented by the level.

Hexage has been creating some of the best games on Android since early in the platform's run. It has a distinct style that has evolved through the years as Android acquired more graphical prowess. That leads us to the newest Hexage title, Reaper. This is a 2D hack-and-slash RPG with a casual style of gameplay and a ton of pizazz. Unlike some previous Hexage games, this one is not free-to-play. You can try it out, but you've got to make a decision about buying the full version.
