There's an almost obsessive quality to equipping and upgrading your character that makes the RPG genre so addictive for some players. OrangePixel's long-awaited Heroes Of Loot understands that and strips out all the unnecessary fluff like story, character development, and whiz-bang 3D graphics... to make room for more loot. The game is available now on the Play Store in a $2 paid version or a free ad-supported version.

Heroes Of Loot technically fits into the "roguelike" sub-genre thanks to semi-permanent player death and procedurally-generated dungeons.

In 2009, I was an iPhone user. I had been watching Android intently, but none of the hardware really appealed to me. As the end of the year grew near, I felt the itch to get out of Apple's walled garden. I didn't hate my iPhone, but I knew it wasn't the right platform for me. I bought an HTC Hero, and I still pride myself on having the commonsense to return it a few weeks later and buy the Motorola Droid.

Turn-based gaming is making a bit of a comeback these days, but such titles can easily end up painfully tedious or just not compelling. Breach and Clear is a top-down shooter that seems to aim for a middle ground. You have to carefully position units, leverage special tactics, and keep track of enemies. However, some of the busywork is taken out of your hands. This game has the potential to scratch a tactical itch in a big way.

You probably know Hexage. This developer has been a part of the Android gaming landscape since the beginning with titles like Radiant, EVAC, and Robotek. Hexage's newest title is the 2D action RPG Reaper, and it looks amazing.

This game takes the essence of an RPG and distills it to work effortlessly on a mobile device. There aren't a plethora of buttons all over the screen, just left and right controls and a gesture area for attacks and jumps.

Ouya announced in July that it would match funds for Ouya titles that were funded through Kickstarter. That's a pretty good deal, so a number of game developers took a swing at it. There were reports as the first two campaigns neared their goals that something was amiss. There were a number of very large donations, and some felt that screamed "scam." One project has been suspended, and the details are starting to come out.

As promised, tactical shooter Breach and Clear has arrived on Android. This game gives you command of a team of elite commandos, which you use to execute the perfect assault and take out the bad guys. This is definitely not another mindless shooter.
