Mass Effect Infiltrator Review: Better Late Than Never

Before anyone had the chance to get their hands on Mass Effect 3 and complain about the ending, EA released Mass Effect Infiltrator on Apple's iOS. Now that most interested gamers have played through Mass Effect 3, the game has arrived fashionably late on Android. This is a game that will still appeal to fans of Mass Effect if for no other reason than it manages to tell a story straight out of the Mass Effect universe.

In Infiltrator, you aren't controlling the one and only Commander Shepard. Instead, you're playing the part of Cerberus agent Randall Ezno. You're just fighting the "good" fight, protecting humanity from alien influences, and generally just shooting stuff.

Men In Black 3 Game For Android Drops Ahead Of The Movie Release This Weekend

Summer movie season is already underway, which means that you can expect product placement and tie-ins all over the place. Today's synergistic entry: Men In Black 3 For Android, produced by Gameloft. The game puts you in the role of an MiB agent, protecting the world from rogue alien presences.

 

The game allows players to tackle enemies one-on-one, as well as train agents, build out the facility, upgrade weapons, and travel through time. If only more games allowed you to bend the space time continuum.

The game is free and doesn't appear to have any in-app purchases. Presumably the game makes its money by slipping subtly into your subconscious by making you want to go see the movie, coming out this Friday, May 25th, in theaters everywhere.

Because We May – Coalition Of Game Developers Set To Offer Deep Discounts In Celebration Of Pricing Freedom

From May 24th to June 1st, a boatload of your favorite Android games will be going on sale in celebration of pricing freedom. Because We May, a coalition of game developers that is "preparing for launch," announced the sale recently, explaining that the purpose of the sale is to "celebrate online stores that give us control over pricing."

The stores involved include the iOS App Store, Mac App Store, Steam, Google Play, and a few others (including a "Direct from Developer" option).

Games in the Google Play category (so far) include favorites like World of Goo, Osmos, Smuggle (and Snuggle) Truck, Canabalt HD, and 26 other great games.

Unfortunately, I could only find 4 tablet apps in almost a month, which makes me really sad. Sure, a lot of apps are automatically compatible with tablets, but we always appreciate the extra effort that goes into making a dedicated tablet UI.

[Update] NVIDIA Is Launching An OnLive-Like Cloud Gaming Service, Aims To Hand Unthinkable Power Over To Game Devs

OnLive makes a lot of headlines for its cloud gaming service. For the unitiated...get on the internet. For crying out loud, where have you been? OnLive renders games on cloud-based servers and streams the game video to your device and your control inputs back to the servers. The result: you can play games on your phone, tablet, or old computer you never would've been able to play before. Now NVIDIA is getting in on the action with the GeForce GRID, a cloud gaming server solution that the company is opening up to game developers.

Unlike OnLive, NVIDIA isn't opening a store front to end users, but rather offering a service to game developers to integrate directly into their games.

[Update: It's Live!] Sega Announces Sonic 4 Episode 2 Is Heading To Tegra 3 Devices May 16th

We heard about it back in February, and now it looks like Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II is about to start rolling out. Those of you with Tegra 3 chips in your devices, get ready to have your SoCs rocked off*. Everyone else will be waiting for a little while. The gaming company's follow-up to Episode I of the same game will launch on Android tomorrow, for $6.99.

Update: The game is live.

The game will debut on PSN and Steam today, initially, before rolling out to the Play Store and Xbox Live Arcade tomorrow. If you purchased Episode I, you'll get access to the special Episode Metal content pack.

[Weekend Poll] Follow Up: Is Gaming On Android Lackluster?

Way back in October, Artem and I got into a debate about the quality of Android's gaming scene. I was of the opinion that there were good gaming titles - not an abundance, but enough quality titles to keep me happy. Artem, on the other hand, was of the opinion that there were virtually no good games on Android. So we put it to you, our readers. The result: gaming on Android was good, not great.

Fast-forward a little over six months, and there are a lot more high-quality, bigger-budget titles available on Android. So we'll ask it again: what are your thoughts on the state of Android gaming?

Google Working On Its Own Version Of Game Center, Says Business Insider

In a continued attempt to make Android more viable as an entertainment platform, Google is working on a social gaming app in the same vein as Apple's Game Center, if Business Insider's sources are to be believed. The app would be a huge boon for social gaming on Android. As the platform grows, and gaming along with it, Google risks losing a golden opportunity to be even more deeply embedded within one of the biggest growth markets in mobile.

The usual features are expected: social achievements, awards/trophies, and player leaderboards. What's unclear is whether or not Google will try to integrate Plus into the mix.
