Ant Raid Review: Lead Your Tiny Minions To Victory

The comings and going of ants are rarely fodder for a good strategy game, but when you think about it, they're tailor made. Ants have lots of natural enemies, a hive-mind social structure for you to command, and ants don't take crap from anyone (ever step on an anthill?). In Ant Raid, you take command of a group of anthropomorphized ants under attack from all sides. Snails, wasps, and all manner of other small-stature troublemakers are out to destroy the colony, and you're the only one that can stop them.

Gameplay

Ant Raid has a very simple concept at its core: keep the colony alive.

[CES 2013] NVIDIA Reveals Early Project Shield Titles: Blood Sword, ARMA, Real Boxing, Rochard, And More

NVIDIA's jaw-dropping Tegra 4 and Project Shield demos showed off a lot of impressive hardware, but any gamer will tell you: it's all about the games themselves. To that end, they've revealed a few of the games currently in development and set to take advantage of both the Tegra 4 and Shield's console-style controls. We've already seen Madfinger's Dead Trigger 2, but on the shiny new Shield website, there are brief glimpses of other titles.

Blood Sword: Sword of Ruin

First up is Blood Sword: Sword of Ruin. This is the first time we've seen the game, but based on the screenshot, it seems to be a Devil May Cry-type fantasy hack-and-slash action title. This one should make good use of the controller.

Happy New Year! It's that time again; with the new year comes our new annual prediction post. I tackled this last year, and rather than do a bunch of crazy, pulled-from-thin-air predictions, I ended up with a link-filled research-fest for the year. It worked out pretty well, so that's what's on the docket for today. First though, I'll take a look and see just how many of last year's predictions and rumors came true, and provide some updates for the more important topics.

A Look Back To 2012

What a crazy year. 2012 brought us two versions of Jelly Bean: 4.1 and 4.2. We saw a complete transformation of Google Search with the Knowledge Graph, Google Now, voice output, and Google Goggles integration.

[New Game] Killer Escape Brings Survival Horror And Point-And-Click Adventure Together

Horror and adventure are a surprisingly potent combination for gaming - just ask anyone who's played TellTale's series based on the Walking Dead series. The niche is a little barren on Android, but has gotten a little less so with the release of Killer Escape. In this game you're a luckless protagonist captured by a serial killer, and you've got to use your wits to escape via a series of puzzles and exploring your dank surroundings.

Killer Escape is notable in a lot of ways: it's the first entry in the point-and-click horror genre that we've seen on Android, it's a beautiful full 3D game (though the pacing is slow enough that you shouldn't need screaming hardware to enjoy it) and it's free.

Anomaly Korea Review: Tower Defense Is Dead – Long Live Tower Offense

You've probably played loads of tower defense games on Android. There's a reason they're so popular, though. See, tower defense games are fun and hard to screw up. Still, the same old thing can get boring after a while. So it's nice to see Anomaly Korea show up and continue turning the genre on its head like its predecessor did. In Anomaly Korea, you play the creeps trying to get past the towers.

Gameplay And Controls

The backstory is that the aliens have invaded and they are not the nice kind that want to invite us to join a galactic federation.

After the game received no small amount of notoriety on iOS, Herocraft has finally seen fit to release it to our fair platform, just in time for you to ignore your family over the holidays. Even better, they're discounting it for the launch, so you can pick it up for just a dollar at the moment.

The gameplay is somewhere between Starcraft and Pikmin. You control a continually respawning army of ants as they defend their colony from mutated snails, ravenous worms, and bees, which are pretty disagreeable at the best of times.

Gameloft Slashes Prices On Almost All Its Games To $0.99 In Time For The Holidays

Smack in the middle of the holiday season, Gameloft has cut prices on just about all of its paid games in a "Holiday Frenzy." If you've got a couple dollars to spare and some time to kill, Gameloft likely has something you'll enjoy, slicing prices on everything from The Adventures of Tin Tin to Wild Blood down to a mere $0.99. Conspicuously absent from the sale is Modern Combat 4, but the 12 other deals make up for its exclusion (though this writer posits that the game may just be worth its $6.99 price tag).

Disney Releases Nemo's Reef, It's A Small World Live Wallpaper, And Where's My Holiday? All In One Go

Leave it to Disney to go all out like this. In a very rapid release of new apps, everyone's favorite kid-friendly distributor of films, TV shows, games and anything else that can empty parents' wallets has dropped on us three new titles. For starters, Nemo's Reef. This let's-call-it-a-game expands on the Finding Nemo franchise (naturally), and allows players to create their own underwater reef. You can customize the fish's home, add various characters from the movies including Gill, Dory, Bloat and Bubbles, and even plant a variety of seeds. It sounds a bit more like a virtual aquarium than a proper game, but that doesn't sound too bad to us!
