"Minecraft - Pocket Edition" For Android Arriving In Fall 2011 For $6.99, Will Be Exclusive To The Xperia Play "For Some Period Of Time"

We've known that Minecraft is coming to Android for some time now - we even witnessed a video of the game in action on the Xperia Play back in May. What we didn't know, however, was when it would become available on the Market and how much it would cost for eager gamers to take everyone's favorite pixelated game with them on the go.

Thanks to an interview conducted at IGN with Minecraft's lead developer, Markus Persson, we now have some more details about the upcoming title.

According to Persson, Minecraft on Android will be dubbed 'Minecraft - Pocket Edition', and although it will be launching as an exclusive to Sony's Xperia Play, it won't stay that way forever.

[New Game] Serious Sam: Kamikaze Attack Coming To Android This Month [Video]

Fans of the classic first person shooter series Serious Sam can rejoice, as the cult video game is making its way to Android sometime this month. Titled Serious Sam: Kamikaze Attack! you play the role of Sam's arch nemesis The Headless Kamikaze, as you make your way through various obstacle-filled levels in order to fulfill your greatest desire: destroy Sam.

The game features 40 levels of action-packed adventure, with one seemingly common theme: you're going to die. The beautiful graphics and rich environments are both inviting and distracting while you journey down the treacherous path to your demise. The developer, Be-Rad Entertainment, highlights the overall look of the game with a fantastic and memorable quote: "Cartoon dismemberment has never been so pretty."

The game will also feature social media integration so you can share you achievements with all of your homies on Facebook.

[New Game Review] Inotia 3 Gives Us A Great Hack And Slash, But Is It Ruined By Micropayments?

Inotia 3, at it's core, is a story-driven RPG where you use a party made of six classes to confront your destiny, yadda yadda yadda. Along the way, you'll complete quests, World of Warcraft style, to appease villagers, get loot and become stronger. The game's main story is actually quite expansive; I haven't had the chance to play through the entire thing yet, but the developer touts 230+ quests, 130+ maps and enough quest text to let you get right deep into it.

This is actually true: the game doesn't shy away from the text, and from what I can tell the translation is much better than the game's market entry.

[New Game] Review: Zombieville USA (From The Makers of Battleheart) - Classic Sidescrolling, Modern Bugginess

Earlier today, Mika Mobile, developer of the popular game Battlheart, released their popular iOS title Zombieville USA on the Android Market. You can pick it up now for $2. What exactly is this game? Mindless sidescrolling, shoot/bash-em-up 2D action. This was Mika's first game release, and it's just now been ported to Android. Unfortunately, the gameplay is showing its age, and it's somewhat obvious this game is a hasty iOS port.

Where to begin? When I saw the screenshots for this game, I wasn't exactly enthusiastic about quality. Then again, I'd never heard of Mika Mobile, or Battleheart, until I was informed of its relative popularity by Artem.

We Sit Down With The Head Of The Amazon Appstore And Talk Refunds, Reviews, Device Filtering, And More

When we published a piece reporting on the recent decision of game developer Bithack to pull its popular title Apparatus from the Amazon Appstore, we contacted Amazon asking for comment on the whole situation.

Earlier this week, Amazon got back to us and wanted to sit down and discuss the Appstore and some of the issues that developers and customers alike have had. While Amazon could not specifically discuss the complaints of Bithack for confidentiality reasons, they were able to generally talk about some of the concerns Bithack raised.

Today, I spoke with Aaron Rubenson, Category Leader (essentially, head of business) of the Amazon Appstore.

Age of Wind 2 indulges the side of us that would like to go off with Captain Jack Sparrow and look to make our own fortune. After an opening "story" sequence where you're tossed overboard from an exceptional ship, you're left to start with your own crew and a smaller vessel, hopefully to achieve success.

Yo ho!

Age of Wind 2 plays a lot like one of my favourite titles, Sid Meier's Pirates!. In that title, you would take on the role of a budding young pirate, patrolling the Caribbean and plundering how you'd like. The game was great because it was a sandbox game with a great premise: you could choose national allegiance and help them gain dominance over the Spanish Main, or just wreck everyone.

[New Game] BackStab HD, Gameloft's Bloody Take On Assassin's Creed, Now Available In The Android Market

Apparatus Developer: "Amazon Appstore Is A Disaster"

You might have heard of the fun physics/Rube Goldberg machine game Apparatus. It's actually pretty popular, and quite well-loved - over 800 reviews on the Android Market putting it at an average score of 4.5. For a game, especially, that's a very difficult feat to accomplish. It goes without saying then, that the developer of Apparatus is very concerned with customer feedback and providing support for his application.

Recently, he decided to distribute Apparatus through the Amazon Appstore. Today, he decided to remove it.

Initially, Apparatus was rejected by the Appstore for an extremely minor (even insignificant) mis-step: it used HTTP rather than HTTPS for a cookie when the app was accessing the community forums.

It's always nice to see popular, formerly iOS-exclusive games make their way to Android, a platform which, despite recent improvements, still needs all the help it can get where games are concerned. Therefore, we were delighted when Big Blue Bubble, a critically acclaimed iPhone developer, released its first Android game: Burn the Rope.

Update 7/2/11: Big Blue Bubble released Burn The Rope+, which is an ad-free version of the game for those who don't like the extra permissions in the original game that are required for in-app purchases.

Burn the Rope has you, well, burning as much of a rope as you possibly can.

Settlers Of Catan Finally Released For Android - But It's Definitely Not Cheap

Long have board game geeks awaited the Android debut of the most popular and inventive board game since, arguably, Monopoly. The Settlers of Catan has finally arrived on the Market, but it comes with an admission cost - approximately $4.31. But, given the game's immense popularity worldwide, something tells me fans won't have a problem coughing up the bucks.

In the game, you'll find all the classic Catan gameplay, spruced up with sound effects, game statistics, interactive tutorials, and new scenarios - as well as a choice of which board art (US, German, or Classic) to use.
