Of course with a new monthly short list of awesome new apps comes a list of the top new games from the preceding month. October saw a lot of game releases, but we've narrowed the field down to just six must-see entries, sure to satisfy the most discerning mobile gamers.

Shadowgun: DeadZone

Back when we first covered Shadowgun: DeadZone's arrival to the Play Store, we already knew Madfinger's latest creation was a hit.

Guys did you hear the big news? Leia is a Disney Princess Now! Rovio came out with a Star Wars version of Angry Birds! It's got lasers, wookiees, light sabers, and a bunch of other stuff that you remember from those movies you saw growing up that don't seem to bear much resemblance to the newer movies your kids watched. I can feel the conflict within you, though: is this going to be terrible, a bastardization of all my beloved characters, or can I set aside my disdain for everything Lucas and Rovio have done, relax, and enjoy this game?

Inspired by the popular Flash-based puzzler Coign of Vantage by Bobblebrook (which has also been available as an iOS game for some time), Noodlecake has released their latest creation to the Play Store – Pixel Twist.

The game's listing describes it as "a unique little 'zen exercise'," and it undoubtedly lives up to that billing. The goal of the game is simple – rotate a cloud of pixels until it matches a specified image.

If there's one thing that our phones and tablets do really well, it's play games from the 90s. And if there's one thing that games from the 90s do really well, it's make crap explode. Expendable: Rearmed (which has nothing to do with Sylvester Stallone) is a third-person shooter set in the distant future where your clone army is being marched in, one at a time, to kill everyone and blow up everything.

Rovio has been teasing us for about a month now with yet another new Angry Birds title – Angry Birds Star Wars. The game is an almost inevitable mash-up between the smash hit mobile game and one of the most famous science fiction films of all time, and features (as you'd expect) light-saber wielding, force manipulating, laser-shooting birds. They are, of course, angrier than ever and they'll be battling more thieving pigs in more Star Wars-inspired environments than we care to count.

Just in time for Halloween election night, the original paranormal investigators are ready for another round on Android. But hold on, would-be busters: this ain't no ordinary mobile cash-in.  Ghostbusters: Paranormal Blast is an augmented reality mobile cash-in. The core gameplay is finding ghosts though your smartphone camera (AKA Ecto Goggles), zapping them with your handy dandy nuclear-powered Proton Pack until they're weak enough to catch in a regulation Ghost Trap.

Man, this guy just can't catch a break, can he? As if there wasn't enough blood shed from our favorite death-defying ginger in the original Falling Fred and Running Fred after that, he's back for a third round in Super Falling Fred. Like the first, your goal is to make it from the top of a rather large shaft to the bottom without getting sliced by lasers, smashed by chomping doors, or impaled by giant spikey rollers.

From the gameplay trailer, League of Heroes might almost look like Baby's First Diablo. In the village of Frognest, you star as a hero of the story, hacking and slashing through a variety of magical bad guys to save your town. The graphics are beautifully stylized in a 2D cartoon aesthetic. The game is free to play and includes over 60 quests.

If you've ever played an adventure game á la Legend of Zelda, you should feel right at home.

You knew it was coming. It is unavoidable. It is your destiny. Angry Birds is journeying to a galaxy far, far away. Today, a gameplay trailer was released that, in addition to revealing a pink Princess Leia bird (excuse me while I check off number 7 on my list of "Phrases I Never Thought I'd Have To Write"), shows our avian heroes wielding light sabers and shooting lasers out of their eyes to bring down AT-AT walkers.

Now you're talking, Square Enix. After releasing Final Fantasy after Final Fantasy to Android, the RPG legend has gotten around to releasing everyone's favorite non-terminal adventure: Chrono Trigger! For the uninitiated, what's taking you so long? This game has been out since the Super NES and has been emulated to death! Heck, it's even available on the DS. You're out of excuses now, it's time to play.

Now Androis users can also experience the entire, time-spanning adventure.
