[IFA 2012] Samsung Officially Unveils The Galaxy Camera With A 16.3MP Sensor, 21x Optical Zoom, And More

Samsung's rumored Galaxy Camera, which we saw leak just a short while earlier, is now official. The Jelly Bean packing point-and-shoot is Samsung's first foray into Android-powered cameras, and is in fact helping to shape what could become a successful niche market (after all, we did just see Nikon unveil a new Android-powered point and shoot).

Of course what you're really interested in is the camera's specs. The Galaxy Camera doesn't seem to disappoint on paper, packing a 1/2.3" BSI CMOS sensor with an impressive 16.3 effective megapixels. Here's a full look:

23mm f/2.8 lens with 21x optical zoom (though we're not sure who manufactured the glass)
4.7" HD Super Clear Touch Display at 308ppi
ISO from 100 up to 3200
3G and 4G connectivity

The camera, despite its 4.7" display, actually seems quite pocketable, carrying a 128.7x70.8x19.1 frame that weighs just 305g.

Samsung Galaxy Stellar - Formerly 'Jasper' - Pops Up At Best Buy, Spills The Beans Ahead Of Release

First we caught a glimpse of the Samsung Jasper, a mid-range device slated for Big Red. Then Droid Life was leaked a photo of the price card for the Samsung Galaxy Stellar. Now we know they're one and the same,courtesy of a full product listing that has cropped up on Best Buy.

Though the Stellar is listed as available for store pickup beginning today, it's actually unavailable in stores at this point. That could be because it's before the stores have opened, or because the date was simply entered incorrectly.

The specs match the reported launch price of $100 on contract:

1.2GHz dual-core CPU
LTE
4" 800x480 display
3.2MP rear shooter, 1.3MP front

No word on RAM or storage, or what specific CPU it packs.

Rumor Has It Samsung Set To Announce Galaxy S Camera Alongside Note 2 At IFA, Based On Galaxy S III

We hear a lot of rumors around here, and it's not always easy to decide which ones to cover. Some we cover just because of how ridiculous they are, but usually we stick to ones we think hold merit. This one, though... well, I just can't decide which category it falls into, but it might be a little of both.

A tipster has told GSMArena that Samsung will announce a Galaxy S III-esque point-and-shoot alongside the Note 2 at IFA next week. Think a Galaxy S III that's just under twice as thick (which, let's be honest, would still be pretty thin for a camera) and packs "a 16MP sensor and 10x zoom, with a pop-out Xenon flash and a curved right side aimed at improving its ergonomics." The chuckle-inducingly bad name will apparently be Samsung Galaxy Camera.

Despite the fact that we're pretty sure to see the unveiling of Samsung's Galaxy Note 2 at IFA this year, there are undoubtedly still some folks out there still looking to get their hands on the original. If you're among them, you're in luck – Amazon Wireless is offering the AT&T-connected, 5.3" Super AMOLED display-toting Galaxy Note for just $159.99 (a cool $40 off AT&T's price for those keeping count). We haven't seen a deal this good on the AT&T Note since way back in February, meaning those still waiting for a discount would be well advised to check this out.

Apple Claims 2 Million Lost Device Sales, Judge Koh Removes Three Samsung Devices From Trial

Apple's trial against Samsung, which resumed today, has hit another milestone – Apple rested its case against Samsung today after a somewhat shocking testimony from a financial expert who indicated that the Cupertino manufacturer may have lost up to 2 Million device sales (including both iPhones and iPads) because of Samsung's alleged infringement. This testimony came after last week's revelation that Apple asked Samsung for up to $30 per smartphone and $40 per tablet device for patent licensing.

The report, figured by CPA Terry Musika, relied on three main number sets: how much revenue Samsung brought in with the accused products, royalty fees based on infringed patents, and any profits Apple may have lost to Samsung sales.

Samsung Drops ICS Kernel Source For Galaxy Note 10.1 (N8000, N8010, N8013), Wi-Fi Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, Galaxy Tab 10.1 (P7500, P7510)

In a (relatively) timely release, Samsung has given eager developers something to play with over the weekend – the manufacturer recently dropped Ice Cream Sandwich kernel source code for a handful of devices including three variants of the Galaxy Note 10.1 (the N8000, 8010, and 8013), the Wi-Fi Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, and both 3G and Wi-Fi variants of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (P7500 and 7510).

The release comes just days after the official Note 10.1 launch, source code release for the Korean Carrier-connected variant of the Note 10.1, and the discovery of a successful root method for the device.

Negri Electronics Tweets Pics Of The Galaxy Note 10.1, Says It "Ships 8/3" - Color Us Confused

Well, this is...odd. To say the least. Tonight, Negri Electronics, which is a well-respected and reputable dealer in consumer electronics, tweeted the picture of a partially-unboxed Galaxy Note 10.1, claiming that the device "Ships 8/3", and included the hashtag "#beforefirst." It's a little unclear what "#beforefirst" means. Maybe Negri gets to ship the product before everyone else? Or is it that pre-orders are starting? You can pre-order on Negri's site right now, so maybe that's it. However, the ship date of tomorrow sounds, well, sudden.

For starters, there are not one but two Samsung events coming up in the near future.

New Jelly Bean (JRO03H) Binaries Up For Nexus S/4G, Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi, And Verizon, GSM Galaxy Nexus

In a post to Google's Android Building group today, Jean-Baptiste Queru once again acted as the bearer of good tidings for developers and tweakers everywhere, announcing that "a new set of proprietary binaries for Jelly Bean are available."

The new batch of binaries includes those of the Nexus S and Nexus S 4G (Crespo and Crespo4G respectively), the latter of which we just recently saw added into the AOSP fold.

The set also includes updates to the both the GSM Galaxy Nexus (maguro), and Verizon's Galaxy Nexus (toro, which itself is ever so close to full AOSP support).

Conspicuously absent from the party is Sprint's variant of the Galaxy Nexus, but there's no surprise there.

Sprint's Galaxy SIII And Galaxy Nexus Receive Minor Updates

Sprint customers using Samsung's Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy SIII should expect an OTA update to roll in any time now, bringing some enhancements and fixes that – while not entirely exciting – are worth picking up.

The Galaxy SIII update brings the device's software up to L710VPLG8, and includes a handful of improvements, including enhancements to Samsung's Smart Stay feature, voice recognition, and the addition of All-Share Cast support.

The Galaxy Nexus, meanwhile, will be bumped up to IMM76K.L700FG01. Users can expect relatively fewer changes with this update, but the small handful of enhancements include support for Sprint TV and an unspecified Google Security Fix, among others.

Samsung: A Major Announcement And Unveiling Of The Newest Galaxy Device Is Coming On August 15th

Earlier this week, Korean publication Digital Daily spread a few rumors of an upcoming Samsung event said to be happening in August where the company may unveil the Galaxy Note 2.

Guess what? We just got a save the date for a Samsung event on August 15th where Samsung will be "unveiling of the newest GALAXY device." It could be the Galaxy Note 2 - or perhaps the U.S. announcement of the Galaxy Note 10.1. It's anyone's guess right now, but we'll keep you posted as more information arises.
