Samsung Intends To Dominate The Tablet Market That Doesn't Quite Exist Yet

As we all know, Samsung is very adamant about its famed Galaxy S's older brother, the Galaxy Tab. We're getting more details about it as days go by, but so far it appears that Samsung is planning on selling it exclusively through wireless carriers and has already secured several deals with Europe carriers.

What is very interesting is this quote they made in an article by the Wall Street Journal:

Mr. Yoon [Samsung's Product Executive] said Samsung expects to ship 10 million Galaxy Tabs and take a third of the global tablet market next year. Samsung is exploring the possibility of a tablet with a 10-inch or six-inch screen, and Mr.

Sera-Apps, the group responsible for cracking the Motorola Milestone wide-open, have been up to their antics again. This time, they've set their crosshairs on the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The result? Headshot. Even though the device is not set to launch for about another month, you can rest assured that your warranty won't even have enough time to start feeling safe.

Rumor Has It Samsung Galaxy Tab Will Go To Sprint

Seems like Sprint is really turning itself around lately, doesn't it? They've managed to stop bleeding customers in the past few months, and it's a fairly safe assumption that their ever-expanding lineup of awesome devices has something to do with it. Looks like they're looking to continue the trend, too: BGR's heard word that the Galaxy Tab will be headed to Sprint sometime in November.

They don't provide any details other than that, so hopefully this ends up being reliable. It does seem feasible - word on the street is that Verizon is slated to get a few tablets from Motorola, while we've heard nary a peep about any Sprint tablets before this point.

Root Available For the Epic 4G You Don't Even Have Yet

That was quick - the Sprint's Epic 4G has already been rooted by the crew over at SDX-devs. In other words, now you can root that phone you don't have yet. It's a method requiring adb (Android Device Bridge) commands and thus desktop connectivity, but a one-click solution will probably emerge sooner rather than later. Note: it says EVO root, but the method works on this phone as well, don't let the filename fool you. Instructions below:

Coming Soon: Stock Android 2.1 For Samsung Galaxy S

It seems a few community developers (@barakinflorida) have been inching towards releasing a functional, bone stock version of Android 2.1 for the Samsung Galaxy S (That is, without Samsung's TouchWiz interface). Their efforts are paying off, as this video shows.

The only big issues remaining lie in getting the camera/camcorder to actually, well, work. A relatively minor inconvenience, and a problem many developers have struggled with when developing full-ROM releases for phones with UI overlays.

Android 2.1 is starting to seem a little dated to be utilizing for development of ROMs - maybe a stock FroYo update will follow? But now that members of the CyanogenMod team are working on a CM6 build for the Galaxy S, it's hard to say if there will be much demand for a stock Froyo.

Samsung Unleashes Galaxy S Phone Accessories: Desktop, Car Docks, and Spare Battery Charger; Teases WMG160 HD Media Streaming Device For The US

It’s hard to say if it called for a full-blown press release, but Samsung today issued a statement announcing the availability of official Samsung-branded accessories for Galaxy S devices in the US.

What kind of goodies can users expect? Well, as the title suggests, Samsung has produced some very shiny photos of a desktop dock, a car dock/charger, and a spare battery charging system (they’ve apparently caught on that many Android users go through multiple batteries in the course of a day). You can see them in all their glossy black plastic glory below:

Tomfoolery aside, these are necessary accessories for a phone as robust as the Galaxy S; the car and desktop docks/chargers in particular.

Samsung Handing Out Free Galaxy S Phones To Disgruntled iPhone 4 Users On Twittter?

Are you still death gripping your phone into oblivion, wishing that your signal would maintain long enough to make just one call? Don’t worry we hear you, and apparently, so do the folks over at Samsung!

There have been a few tweets flying around Samsung’s UK twitter page lately, handing out free Galaxy S phones to five lucky British individuals. Before you all rush to Twitter and start sending tweets out to Samsung though, you should probably know that all may not be how it seems.

Engadget has done some investigatory work on the people who have supposedly received these free devices, and found that at least four of the five people receiving the device are involved in marketing or publishing.

AT&T Announces July 18th Release For Samsung Captivate (Galaxy S) With $199 Price Tag

This morning, AT&T announced that the Samsung Captivate (aka Galaxy S i9000) would go on sale July 18th at a new contract or upgrade price of $199. The Galaxy S will be a watershed in AT&T’s release history: Captivate will be the first high-end Android device to reach an AT&T store and sit side by side with (or perhaps in an unlit corner far away from) the iPhone 4.

There does not appear to be a pre-order option, so you anxious AT&T users will likely have to get to your local AT&T store July 18th to pick up your device if you want it on release day.
