FreedomPopApp

FreedomPop is the Sprint MVNO that's willing to provide you with free phone service, but if you really want to get much use out of it away from home, that price tag goes up rather quickly. Yet even then, the plans available aren't going to break the bank. Today the carrier has introduced a new $20 plan that comes with unlimited data. For the first time ever, FreedomPop customers can now tap into Sprint LTE (instead of WiMax), and this plan will provide up to 1GB of it a month (after which, phones are limited to 3G).

When it comes to pushing Jelly Bean to devices, Samsung wants us to know that it hasn't forgotten about any of its current-gen devices. Take today's update for example – do you remember the Galaxy Victory? Didn't think so. Still, Samsung and Sprint are sending the 4.1.2 update over-the-air right now.

The update brings several features to the less-than-memorable handset:

Jelly Bean offers users stunning graphical capabilities with expanded feature functionality, including:

  • Google Now™
  • Expandable, actionable notifications
  • Android Beam™ now lets you send photos and more.

If you want to use Sprint's network without signing a contract, there are a lot of options out there, including its subsidiary Boost Mobile, the American MVNO Virgin, and hybrid provider Republic Wireless, among others. Sprint hopes that there are at least some prepaid customers left out there, because starting on January 25th, it will be offering its service in contract-free flavors.

Update: Sprint confirmed the new service to Fierce Wireless and provided some additional details.

Samsung and Sprint let loose the Galaxy Victory today, a not-quite-budget phone that we saw leaked back in May, then again in July. The official announcement basically seems to confirm what we already knew about the device: that it's not exactly anything to get excited over.

The Victory is packing a 4" WVGA (800x480) SAMOLED Plus display, powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor of unknown lineage (we're guessing a clocked-down version of the Qualcomm MSM8960 S4).
