WiMAX Version Of Samsung Galaxy S II Approved By The FCC

We normally tend not to report FCC filings and approvals, but this was just too juicy to pass up. Our friends at Wireless Goodness are reporting that the FCC have approved a phone called the SPH-D710 submitted by Samsung.

The CDMA/EvDO and WiMAX version of the device obtained FCC approval indicating that it is headed for Sprint. Furthermore, the camera and speaker placement in the FCC filing document mirrors the placement of the same in the images of the Sprint branded Galaxy S2 leaked by This is my next earlier this month.

Just yesterday we reported that BGR managed to get their hands on images of what looked to be AT&T's variant of the Galaxy S2 featuring a QWERTY keyboard.

Update: Since there are a lot of upset AT&T customers out there, a caring tipster decided to drop a photo over at Android Central that suggests AT&T may be getting a keyboard-less version of the GSII as well. With that said, I will express my absolute skepticism about this. There is but a single picture, and we all know how easily photographs can be manipulated. So, before you get too excited, I urge you all to take this at face value until we get more proof.

Boy Genius Report landed some exclusive pictures of AT&T's variant of the Samsung Galaxy S II, and it's going to be the crown jewel of QWERTY lovers across the country with its slide-out physical keyboard:

According to BGR, the GSII still retains a rather thin profile, despite the addition of the keyboard.

Us Brits are pretty hard off when it comes to data plans. Tariffs may not be as expensive as they are in the States, but you can expect to have a pretty tight data allowance when you purchase a smartphone on this side of the pond.

Although most carriers don't allow more than a few GB per month, Three UK has recently launched the One plan, which offers truly unlimited data on all plans which are £35 a month. The plan has proved popular with the iPhone and Android phones, and it seems as though other networks may finally be thinking about following suit.

CyanogenMod 7 Nightly Builds Coming To The Samsung Galaxy S II

Owners of Samsung's Android devices are being treated to Cyanogen left, right and center lately. Just a few days ago, the Fascinate joined the ranks of Samsung CM7 devices alongside the Captivate, Nexus S 4G, Vibrant, and the Galaxy S, and now you can add the Galaxy S II to that list.

Atin M, a developer of Cyanogen, posted the news on Google+ earlier, saying:

Ok, Samsung Galaxy S2 should be getting CyanogenMod7 nightlies soon (as soon as builtbot is ready to do builds, they're all broken at the moment).

Remember, bug reports on CM7 nightlies are a leading cause of male erectile dysfunction and of weight gain for everyone else .

One could say it was their first serious smartphone, and its core was widely dispersed around the globe, appearing as the i9000 in Europe and Asia, and - perhaps more familiarly - the AT&T Captivate, Sprint Epic 4G, T-Mobile Vibrant, and Verizon Fascinate in the USA. While we have yet to see firm plans for a repeat of this four-pronged attack with the successor to the Galaxy S, the Galaxy S II i9100 (aka the Samsung "It's Over 9000!") is already widely available throughout the rest of the world and is making waves while at it.

Samsung Galaxy S II Coming To Bell, Virgin Mobile, And SaskTel In Canada, US Still Lies In Wait

While the US patiently waits for any of its carriers to announce the Samsung Galaxy S II, our neighbor to the north just got itself a heaping helping of awesome. Not just one or two, but three Canadian carriers - Bell, Virgin Mobile, and SaskTel - announced that they would be carrying this superphone in the coming weeks.

The only carrier to provide any worthwhile info was SaskTel, stating that the GSII will come in for $79.99 with a three-year agreement, but no official release date was pegged.

While both release date and pricing are completely lacking for Virgin and Bell, you can sign up to win one at Bell's GSII landing page.

Update: According to Engadget, it was just a miscommunication - the VZW spokeswoman was actually referring to the Galaxy Tab 10.1. We knew it was too good to be true.

If there's one device that a lot of us have been waiting on to hit US soil, it's the Samsung Galaxy S II. Reportedly called the Function, Attain, and Within on Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint respectively, this phone has been hotly anticipated ever since its debut at MWC back in February.

ComputerWorld has gotten unofficial word from a "Verizon spokeswoman" that this phone will be hitting Big Red sometime in July.

Samsung Shows OS X Users Some Love, Releases Kies For Mac Beta (Finally)

If you own a Samsung phone or tablet, there's a good chance that you've heard of Kies, Samsung's proprietary synchronization software. If you're also a Mac user, I'd be willing to bet that you're familiar with the frustration of Kies' Windows exclusivity.

Good news, though - the days of booting into Windows just to sync some data or grab an update are over, as Samsung finally released a version of Kies for Mac. Beware, though - this software is beta, so you'll probably experience some bugs. Also, the initial version only supports two devices: the Galaxy S II and the Galaxy Tab - so if you're not holding one or the other, you'll have to wait for Sammy to push an update that supports your device.

European Samsung Galaxy S2 Source Code Released, Download It Now

This is huge news for Galaxy S2 owners, as this is probably the most beastly phone out on the market today, and you know that our boys (and girls?) over at XDA are going to do everything in their power to make it even more beastly.

Samsung Galaxy S II Now Available On Three UK

UK mobile carrier Three just announced that one of the most anticipated handsets of the year, the dual-core Galaxy S II, is now available for purchase.

The Galaxy S II is one of the speediest and slimmest Android handsets on the Market today with a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, measuring only 8.5mm thick and shipping with Android 2.3 "Gingerbread." It comes with a beautiful 4.3" Super AMOLED Plus display and sports 2 cameras: 8MP 1080P HD in the back and 2MP in the front.
