Samsung Epic 4G Touch's Stunning HD Video Capabilities, Or Why I No Longer Need A Dedicated Camcorder

After getting the Samsung Epic 4G Touch (that's Sprint's Galaxy S II) on launch day, I had to quite conveniently leave on a planned trip to the wine country half-way between San Francisco and Los Angeles. During this trip, I took this sample video in 720p HD resolution to test the Epic 4G Touch's camera performance I've heard so many great things about from everyone outside the U.S. Considering our review of the E4GT is lacking a video test, I thought this post would be the perfect follow-up.

What can I say?.. The SGS II's camera blew me away - the photos were nice, but the video clarity and 30fps smoothness, even when quickly panning around which I tried to do in the beginning, absolutely knocked it out of the park.

Just In Time For The Release Of The Epic 4G Touch, Samsung Makes The Kernel Source Available

One of the best things about Samsung in recent months has been its timely release of source code for new devices -- often times before they even hit the market. True to form, Sammy just dropped the Epic 4G Touch source in its Open Source Release Center.

This is quite exciting news for those picking up this monster device today (or who already have it in-hand), as only good things come from the development community once the source hits. In a matter of days, we should start seeing custom kernels pop out that will push this beast to its limits, making an already awesome device even more awesome.

T-Mobile's Samsung Galaxy S II Will Come With A 1.5GHz Dual-Core Snapdragon According To GalaxySsupport's Twitter

When Samsung officially unveiled the US variants of the Galaxy S II, the spec sheet for T-Mobile's variant was oddly absent from the show. After that, we started hearing that it would not be sporting the same Exynos processor of its AT&T and Sprint siblings, but rather a chip from a "different manufacturer," with no word as to who that manufacturer could be.

Today, though, one Twitter-er had enough with the guesswork and decided to get an answer directly from the source: @GalaxySsupport, the official support account for all US Galaxy S devices. The first response was a bit lackluster however, only stating only that it "has a dual core processor." Naturally, this answer was just not good enough, so the question was asked again, this time with more detail.

The freshly announced Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch, or as I like to call it, Get-In-My-Belly, is my next Sprint device, replacing the now senile EVO 4G with its state-of-the-art gorgeous 4.52" screen and blazing fast Exynos dual cores sprinting at 1.2GHz each. Sure, the Prime may be on the horizon, but who knows when or if it will be announced on Sprint at all? In the meantime, the Epic 4G Touch is almost here to tower over all competition.

[Updated: Full Specs Added] 4.52-Inch Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch For Sprint Revealed Ahead Of Today's Event

We've all been waiting for weeks - nay, months - for Sammy to bring the Galaxy S II to the US. Announcement day is finally upon us despite a bit of a delay due to bad weather, but Sammy has already revealed the Sprint version of the GSII, named the Epic 4G Touch, ahead of tonight's event.

The Epic 4G Touch will sport a larger, 4.52-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, verses the 4.3-inch screen of its global counterpart. This version will also include 4G WiMax connectivity and the familiar 1.2GHz Exynos processor.

While we were hoping for a bump in processing speed up to 1.5GHz, the larger display is definitely a welcome addition.

Beefed Up Samsung Galaxy S II LTE Headed To Rogers This Fall

We told you about Rogers' plan to bring LTE to the Toronto area this morning, which included a mention of the LTE infused Galaxy S II. More information about this monster device has now surfaced, and it is chocked full of upgrades.

Aside from the inclusion of LTE connectivity, this device will be housing a 1.5GHz processor (most likely Exynos), NFC, and a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display, making this the most likely candidate for beastliest device of the year.

No exact release date is available just yet, only that it will be available sometime this fall. Congrats, Canada - I'm officially jealous.

Samsung Epic Touch 4G (Sprint's Galaxy S II) Press Shots Leaked: It's A Looker

Samsung's NYC event may have been rescheduled for August 30th, but that doesn't mean you'll have to wait till Tuesday to see the US versions of the Galaxy S II. We've already gotten a sneak peek at the visages of AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint's editions of the phone, and now (once again courtesy of Pocketnow) another press shot has been leaked:

This is, of course, the Epic Touch 4G - Sprint's version of the device. It looks like Big Yellow has done thankfully little tweaking of the GSII: unlike most modern smartphones, there's no logo on the front of the device, and the handset appears to be just as svelte as its European counterpart.

Samsung Galaxy S II Event In NYC Postponed Due To Hurricane Irene

We've practically been counting down the days until Samsung's Galaxy S II event, which was originally scheduled for Monday, August 29, but now it looks like we'll have to add at least one more day to the count. Thanks to Hurricane Irene, New York City has been declared in a state of emergency and over 250,000 people have been evacuated, thus forcing Sammy to postpone the event at least one day, to Tuesday, August 30th.

Of course, we've been waiting this long... I guess one more day isn't going to hurt anyone.

AT&T, T-Mobile, And Sprint Galaxy S II Models Outed In Leaked Image?

Update: On further reflection, we're going to tentatively call this image a "rumor" for now, as we have no way to confirm its authenticity, but we have no reason to think these images are fake, either.

Finally, visual proof that unicorns do exist! Someone, somewhere, has leaked a shot of the upcoming Galaxy S II US market handsets headed for three of America's big four carriers (ATT, T-Mo, Sprint). Without further ado, here they are:
