Samsung Galaxy NX Android-Powered Camera Now Shipping From Amazon And Best Buy, Still Unavailable From Samsung And Other Retailers

Many of us have sacrificed point and shoot cameras for the smartphones in our pockets, but it will be a long time before they can compete with the more high-end options out there. So if you want an Android camera that can take truly phenomenal pictures, you may have to sacrifice the phone portion for the time being. Consider turning your attention to Samsung's Galaxy NX, a camera with a 20.3MP sensor, a 4.8-inch touchscreen, and Android 4.2.2.

Samsung Comes Clean About The Smart Cube Video: Yup, It's A Promo For The Galaxy NX

Remember the allegedly hilarious video for "The Smart Cube" from last week, which toed the line between awkward funding campaign and a parody of awkward funding campaigns? We mentioned at the time that it was almost certainly an alternative marketing campaign for a Samsung product, probably the Android-powered Galaxy NX camera. There's no way to say this without sounding a little smug, so: yeah. It is.

Considering some of the Kickstarter campaigns we've been seeing lately, the original awkward video seemed almost believable.

Samsung Galaxy NX Priced – Coming In October For $1,599 Body-Only Or $1,699 With 18-55mm Lens

Samsung really crossed the streams when it announced the Galaxy NX Android camera back in June – mashing up a high-end mirrorless camera with Android. It's a rather bizarre idea, but actually looks like an interesting device. Samsung neglected to announce a price, though. Well, now it has, and you're not going to like it. The Galaxy NX will cost $1,599 for the body with no lens, or $1,699 for the body and a standard 18-55mm zoom lens.

Samsung Galaxy NX Gets Priced In The UK – £1,299 ($1,989) With 18-55mm Lens

Samsung's Galaxy NX is an unusual product – a high-end mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses running Android. Everyone suspected it would be expensive, but the price, now confirmed in the UK, is really up there. At £1,299, it will cost about the same as the upcoming pro-level Canon EOS 70D (with a comparable lens).

[Weekend Poll] Is Samsung's Insane Galaxy NX Camera Really An Innovation?

If you listen to the Android Police Podcast, you may be well aware at this point that I'm not the biggest fan of Samsung's Android-powered cameras. And I have reasons for this! I've used the Galaxy Camera as a replacement for my crappy little point-and-shoot for weeks at a time, and it just never grew on me. It was insanely bulky for the very average photos it produced (for a point and shoot costing well over $350), and the lack of simple but powerful features like manual focus (yes, really) was a total turn-off.

Samsung Reveals The Galaxy NX Camera With Android 4.2 And Interchangeable Lenses - Already Reviewed On YouTube

Samsung is busy showing off its three Galaxy S4 variants and incredibly ugly glasses onstage in London, but one of the biggest announcements of the day was almost glossed over in the introduction of the premiere event: the much-rumored Galaxy NX. This Android-powered version of Samsung's dSLR and Micro 4/3 camera competitor is aiming to bring Android integration to the higher end of the consumer camera market. While Samsung is still talking it up at the event, at least one random YouTube user has managed to do a full video review of the device.

Rumor Analysis: Is This The Next Galaxy Camera, The Galaxy NX? Probably, But I Kind Of Hope Not

Samsung has a thing with cameras lately, it seems, and putting Android on them. Or attaching a phone to them. Eventually, I expect we will see the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Camera, the world's first stylus tablet with a full-frame DSLR attached to the back. Until then, though, we may have to settle for the Galaxy NX - the spiritual successor to Samsung's not-exactly-lauded Galaxy Camera. Behold its [alleged] massiveness.
