Samsung And Google To Release OTA Update To Galaxy Nexus To Avoid Injunction Sales Ban In US

According to AllThingsD, Google is working quickly to release a software patch to its Galaxy Nexus handset in order to avoid a preliminary injunction sales ban in the US. Google says the patch will be coming very soon (eg, tonight). The news came hot on the heels of Judge Koh's denial of Samsung motion to stay the ban while it appealed the injunction to the circuit court.

Google will also be assisting Samsung in its appeal of the ban, and to challenge the legitimacy of one of Apple's patents on universal search. Google is seeking to have the patent invalidated at the USPTO, as well.

After upgrading my Galaxy Nexus (GSM) to Jelly Bean last night (I know, I know, I'm a few days late), I unlocked its bootloader (the usual fastboot oem unlock) and commenced rooting, which I thought would only take a minute or two. However, after almost 2 hours of pushing, flashing, rebooting, and trying no less than 5 different root methods, I still didn't have root. Something must have changed under the hood, and no root method I was trying was working (even PaulOBrien's SuperBoot).

Finally, I managed to find a solution that worked, and the familiar root permission prompt finally popped up.

[Breaking] Judge Grants Preliminary Injunction Against Sale Of Galaxy Nexus In The U.S.

Apple asked for an injunction on US sales of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus back in February, and now it's gotten it. U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh has ruled that the Google flagship device infringes several patents, but primarily 8,086,604 (multi-source searching). This is a blow to Google just as I/O 2012 is wrapping up. This might finally bring Google head to head with Apple.

Apple has alleged that Samsung infringed four patents, including the aforementioned multi-source search patent. The others cover functions like link actions, word suggestions, and slide to unlock. We know that some of those issues were solved in Android 4.0 with software workarounds.

Somewhere, deep in this zip file, are all the goodies we saw today at I/O. Expect bits from this to be chopped, ported, and crammed into existing devices shortly.

I'm going to get cracking on an emulator setup for a Jelly Bean edition of Getting To Know Android. Expect lots of pictures.

[Breaking] Jelly Bean Download Available Now, But It Only Works On 'Takju' Galaxy Nexuses From Google I/O - For Now

Well, we now have yet another reason to envy Google I/O attendees - a signed copy of the official Jelly Bean build has just been released on the 'nets, but it seems to only be working on the 'takju' (GSM) Galaxy Nexuses given out at I/O 2012 (or at least those GNs with the IMM30D firmware).

You can grab it for yourself right here, if you're interested in what's inside the 156MB ZIP. Don't worry, GN owners - we're sure with the appropriate modifications from the dev community, you'll be able to flash some version of this soon enough - not to mention the countless other goodies that might emerge.

The Galaxy Nexus GSM On The Play Store Is Now $349, Straight From Google

You thought that the liveblog was the only place news was happening? You thought wrong! Google has quietly updated the Play Store listing for the Galaxy Nexus GSM with a new, slightly lower price: $349. Remember, this is unlocked, off-contract pricing. The new listing page also shows the device running Jelly Bean which Google has promised will come to the Galaxy Nexus by mid July.

The Galaxy Nexus is still one of the best Android devices on the market right now. With official support for Google's newest OS on the fast track, it's only going to get better.

[Update] The Next Version Of Android Is Confirmed As 4.1 Jelly Bean, Will Be Coming To The HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus From Google Play First

Google's let a bit of info slip a little early via the Play Store. When purchasing a Galaxy Nexus via the site, while checking out, the device is listed on your order as "Galaxy Nexus HSPA+ - The latest smartphone from Google, soon the first phone with Android 4.1 Jell..." This marks the first time the name Jelly Bean, and the version number 4.1 has been referenced publicly.

More interesting than that, however, is that the listing specifically says that the HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus from the Play Store is "soon the first phone" running the new OS. While most major versions of Android are launched alongside flagship devices, this implies that 4.1 will not have it's own new Nexus phone.

Download The Full Android 4.0.4 (IMM76K) Build For The Verizon Galaxy Nexus Right Now

Google has just published the fully flashable image for the 4.0.4 update to the Verizon Galaxy Nexus (mysid). This allows users who either have been unable to receive the OTA due to using a custom ROM, or simply haven't updated, to flash their devices with a complete OS image, as opposed to using an incremental update file.

This will erase all of your data, so if you do flash it, be sure to back up your stuff. Again, this image is only for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus. To find basic instructions on how to go about flashing, check out the top of the download page.
