The Galaxy Nexus, aka the biggest tease in the world of mobile this year, is so close that we can almost feel the Verizon variant in our grabby little hands, but alas, it's not out just yet. Google wanted to send us a reminder today, just in case we've forgotten (yeah, right) in the form of a new Galaxy Nexus commercial and ten accompanying how-to videos.

Their message: "Simple. Beautiful. Beyond Smart," and that's exactly the way we like it. I do have a few things that came to mind to point out:

  1. The girls are eating ice cream sandwiches. Ha.

When it was confirmed that the Galaxy Nexus doesn't have Gorilla Glass, it was as if the entire world into some sort of I'm going to scratch the hell out of it hysteria. It turns out that all the kerfuffle was for nothing, as one Galaxy Nexus owner decided to put that big beautiful screen to the test.

I admit, it was a little painful to watch, but the end result was nothing less than spectacular. It turns out that Gorilla Glass isn't the only durable glass available for smartphones after all.

Now, do you feel better about the durability and scratch-resistance of the GN's screen?

Canadian Android

Being an Android fan in Canada can be a mixed bag. While you may miss out on some of the sweet devices exclusive to U.S. carriers - the EVO 4G comes to mind - there's also the chance for some benefits, such as the recent July release of the international model of the Samsung Galaxy S II.

Thankfully, living at such northern latitudes won't cost us the opportunity to get our mitten-clad hands on the next Nexus device. While we have known this for a while, the details as to who will carry the Galaxy Nexus and when we can expect it to hit shelves have dropped today.

It seems that invitees to Google's big not-yet-officially-about-Google-Music-event have just received a second invitation - to the after party. Oh, and Maroon 5, Busta Rhymes, Dirty South, R3hab, and Drake will all be in attendance - and so will we.  We'll be watching the earlier event via livestream along with most everyone else (space is apparently very limited), but Android Police will present for the post-event-event Wednesday night, below. We're excited.

But as awesome as the event's headliners are, we're still more interested in what it is Google and T-Mobile are launching that warrants such a high-profile promotion.

Now, we don't have any inside information regarding what's going to be going down on Wednesday in Los Angeles, but I think I might have a pretty good idea - so, humor me for a minute.

I'm surprised this didn't come sooner, but better late than never, right? The full Galaxy Nexus (presumably GSM) system dump, together with boot and recovery images were leaked earlier today by none other than Paul O'Brien, the founder of MoDaCo, a talented developer, and creator of many custom ROMs. If you remember, previously only the apps as well as certain bits and pieces of Ice Cream Sandwich were made available for download.

The files were extracted by Paul from a test device running build ICL23D and are about 170MB in size combined. You can download all 3 of them over at MoDaCo.

The rumor mill is going nuts with release dates for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, and now we can add one more to the list. We already know that the European version of the device will be available on November 17th, and, according to an uncompleted internal Verizon document nabbed by Android Central, it looks like Verizon may be joining the global revolution on the same day.

There is absolutely nothing that screams confirmed! about this, so just take it at face value for the time being. I'm sure Big Red will make an official announcement as soon as they have a solid date in the crosshairs.

After the Galaxy Nexus announcement, there was one question still rolling around unanswered: when is it going to be released? While that question has been answered for our brothers and sisters across the pond, those of us here in the US have been left without a word from Verizon (or anyone else, for that matter). Of course, we have heard dozens of rumors, but nothing with any proof to back it up. That all changes now, though, as Verizon's Holiday Roadmap has gracefully fallen into the hands of Droid-Life.

It's pretty clear-cut, and most of the devices on the list we already know about; so, let's get to the point.

While we're patiently waiting for the American release date of the Galaxy Nexus, Samsung confirmed earlier today that our brothers across the pond will be able to snag the device beginning on November 17th. As for us here in the States, we'll just have to hang out for a while longer and wait for Sammy, Big Red, and whoever else may be involved to send some release date love our way.

How long have we been hearing that the Galaxy Nexus would be exclusive to Verizon? Quite a while -- probably since rumors of the "Nexus Prime" first started surfacing. It looks like those rumors have been around so long that Verizon itself started to believe it, too... until they were told it wasn't true.

Verizon-Wireless-SGN

Last night, Big Red threw an exclusive tag on Galaxy Nexus banners floating around on its site. Today, however, that specific tag seems to have vanished into thin air. Was it Halloween trickery? Alien abduction? Or perhaps a hint that Verizon won't be the only US carrier carrying the GN?

Perhaps you've heard of an upcoming phone called the Galaxy Nexus. It's just a little piece of awesome sent down from the Android Gods to bring in the newest version of Android: Ice Cream Sandwich. Ever since it was officially unveiled on Tuesday night, there have been rumors flying around that Big Red may not be the network that will get this oh-so spectacular device -- but, thankfully, we can now put all that crap to rest, because Verizon just officially announced it.

There's no word on an official launch date or price yet, only that it will be available sometime "this year" -- either way, this is still good news.
