The second-generation Galaxy J7 V hit shelves a little over a year ago. Three months later, even though Pie had already been officially released, it received the 8.0 Oreo update. It's taken until now for both the J7 V and its prepaid J7 counterpart to be updated to the latest Android 9 Pie.
Google's ARCore team just rolled out a new update that appears to bring the augmented reality framework to several more phones and tablets. Some hot new (and upcoming) devices are on the list, like the Galaxy Note9, OnePlus 6T, and ROG Phone. These are also joined by some older models like the Sony Xperia X.
Android 9 Pie has arrived, but a few devices are still waiting on promised Oreo updates. The Verizon variants of the Samsung Galaxy J7 and J7 Prepaid, are among them. According to the phones' support pages, Android 8.0 Oreo is now rolling out for the two devices.
Samsung announced today that it's bringing the mid-range Galaxy A6 and Tab A 10.5, plus the budget J3 and J7 phones, to the U.S., unlocked and via carrier partners. The company is aiming to provide great displays, awesome cameras, and solid performance for people who don't want to spend more on a smart device than they have to. All four will be available on September 14.
Most of us probably focus on flagships in the news—after all, it's the high-performance, expensive devices that get all the fun new features first—but there are plenty of other phones out there. The majority of people probably don't concern themselves with picking up the latest and greatest gadgets, and mid-range phones like Samsung's Galaxy J7 fill that niche. So those on a budget picking up a phone from T-Mobile or AT&T now have some added choice starting today, as Samsung's Galaxy J7 has arrived at both carriers. As an added bonus, T-Mobile also now has the LG Stylo 4.
Earlier this month, Samsung announced the 2018 versions of its Galaxy J3 and J7 smartphones. No release date was given, with only "early June" as an estimate. It's very late in June now, but Verizon, Sprint, and Boost Mobile have launched their versions of the J3 and J7.
Samsung has announced sequels to last year's budget Galaxy J3 and J7 phones. This year's phones will go on sale "through select retail and carrier partners starting in early June and throughout the summer." Samsung didn't mention a price for either device; only that they'll be "affordable." Last year's J3 was $149.99, while the J7 was $219.99.
When we think of Samsung phones, our minds instantly go to the Galaxy S8 and Note8. But Samsung makes a ton of different phones, and the Galaxy J7 is on the upper end of them. The T-Mobile variant of the J7 is now receiving its Android 7.1.1 Nougat update, even though the people behind the phone's support page don't seem to have any idea what's going on.
Samsung has always had budget-oriented phones alongside its flagship products, but they've rarely been sold widely as unlocked phones in the US. Today, it's doing just that. The Galaxy J3 (right) and J7 (left) are being released in the US as unlocked phones on July 28th.
The developer community is always eager to break barriers and make it easier for you to do almost whatever you want with your device, provided you have a lil' know-how and the patience to read a lot of documentation and follow steps to the letter... or maybe the juvenile carelessness to try and hope it'll work from the first go.
