Wirefly Launches T-Mobile G2 Preorders, Bests The Competition: $149.99, No Tax, Free Shipping

Wirefly is notorious for its aggressive pricing when it comes to new phones, and we can't blame them: being an online-only seller, they need to offer something exciting to win customers over from the carriers themselves and other retail locations, such as Best Buy or Radioshack.

The T-Mobile G2 preorder deal that went live today is no exception - it beats out all competition:

  • $149.99 for new accounts ($199.99 for existing ones).

T-Mobile G2 Pre-Order Now Live For Existing T-Mobile Customers - $199.99, Order By October 4th For Delivery By The 6th

As promised and exactly on time, the pre-order page for the upcoming T-Mobile G2 has gone live on T-Mobile's website. Unfortunately, it looks like only existing T-Mobile customers are allowed to submit their preorders, with everyone else being left to dry for now.

The upcoming flagship Android phone will cost you $199.99 after a mail-in rebate on a contract or $499.99 without. That is inline with Best Buy's preorder deal from 2 weeks ago and $50 more than Radioshack's preorder, which is currently the best deal available.

We already knew it was coming soon thanks to T-Mobile's own online store, but only know has TmoNews discovered that "soon" could mean as early as tomorrow.

That's right, if this internal screenshot proves to be anything more than an image crudely put together in Photoshop, existing T-Mobile customers will be able to pre-order the device starting September 24 and ending October 4. The offer will, apparently, be available at "select" T-Mobile retail stores, through "Care upgrades," and, of course, online at the T-Mobile's dedicated G2 website.

T-Mobile Teases Online Pre-Orders For G2 : Coming Soon

While there have been several third party retailers already grabbing headlines with pre-orders of the T-Mobile G2, T-Mo themselves have been keeping mum about when the phone will go up for sale. Well, several T-Mobile customers have been reporting today that the G2 has appeared in their online store with an enticing label: “Pre-ordering starts soon!”

While this is no concrete date, it’s still enough to set vanilla Froyo fanboys’ hearts aflutter, despite the continued lack of an official release date for the G2 (don’t give up hope, guys).

HTC To Update Sense, Also Introduces Remote Wiping And Location Services Via HTCSense.com - But Can Sense Remain Relevant?

Along with the announcement of the less patriotic versions of the EVO 4G and G2, HTC informed attendees of their London press event today that the Sense UI overlay would be receiving an update - in addition to new cloud services through HTCSense.com.

What kind of new goodies does the updated Sense have in store? We'll break down what we've got so far:

  • Completely new video/photo capture, edit, upload, and share system
  • New video/photo capture effects/distortions
  • Offline maps
  • Car app
  • Updated e-mail app
  • Probably a lot more updates to integrated Sense apps like Friend Stream
  • Presumably, back-end improvement for performance, bugs, etc.

HTC Desire Z, Desire HD Official; The EVO And G2 Just Landed In Europe

image

In a move only a smart manufacturer could make, HTC has just brought the G2 to European shores, via the Desire Z. Frankly, it's identical to its US cousin, only, you know... in Europe and with an updated version of HTC's Sense UI. In fact, it features the same 800MHz processor, "Z-hinge" slider mechanism, and aluminum body. We're as excited as you.

HTC also announced the Desire HD, which does to the EVO 4G what the Desire Z did to the G2: bring it to European shores, only this time with several styling differences, notably an aluminum body and an HTC logo that lives at the bottom of the device rather than the top.

HTC Finally Acknowledges Existence Of G2, Posts Tech Specs

While the teaser site for the T-Mobile G2 has been up for quite some time now, HTC, the company actually manufacturing the device, have been quite reticent about its specifications and what’s driving that stock Froyo goodness. Of course, we’ve known of its MSM7230 and various other details for a couple of weeks, but it’s nice to see the official specs solidified on HTC’s website. There are no surprises contained within, but something about the confirmation of what was once nebulous rumour can’t help but bring a warming pulse to every Android’s circuitry.

Let The Price Wars Begin : RadioShack Knocks $50 Off T-Mobile G2's Contract Price

It’s not uncommon to see the big chains try to get a piece of the smartphone launch action with price reductions by mail-in-rebate. However, the hassle that this process usually entails doesn’t make things all that enticing to customers. Thankfully pre-orders for the G2 aren’t yet open on T-Mobile’s website, so prospective buyers now have the pleasure in knowing they’ll be able to get in instant discount with RadioShack, bringing the price down to $149.99 on a two year contract.

Google Voice Widgets Break Out Of G2's Deathgrip, Now Available In The Market

To nobody's surprise, the G2, announced this morning, features a Google Voice widget.

What may be surprising is that there are not one, but two of these widgets: a widget that shows the messages you have in your inbox:

as well as the same widget for managing your Voice settings that was leaked a few weeks ago:

What may be an even bigger surprise is that Google has now made both of these widgets available to non-G2 devices through the Android Market.

T-Mobile Officially Announces G2, Available First To Existing Customers

T-Mobile sent out a press release this morning to officially announce the G2. We've been hearing about (and seeing) the G2 for some time now, especially in the past few weeks. Now, however, we have the official word - and it seems to confirm most of what we've heard.

  • MSM7230 CPU @ 800 MHz
  • 3.7" screen
  • HSPA+
  • Slide-out four row QWERTY keyboard
  • 720p video recording (with automatic upload to Photobucket - nifty)
  • 5 MP Camera with LED flash and autofocus
  • 8 GB mSD card pre-installed (support for up to 32 GB cards)
  • 4 GB ROM
  • Swype

Interestingly, T-Mobile says existing customers will have first dibs at the device - an interesting move considering how many customers a new high-end phone can bring in, but understandable for customer loyalty.
