In a short press release sent out this evening, LG announced that it would be ditching the word (is it a word?) "Optimus" from its premium branding, opting to keep only the "G".

Furthermore, the release reaffirms the name of the company's upcoming flagship – G2.

The release contained one other tidbit – going forward, "LG's premium 4:3 display smartphones will be rebranded as simply 'Vu'." Yes, there will be at least one more Vu, if not more.

[Rumor] Stills Of Supposed LG Optimus G2 'Learning From You' Video Leak Out, Show Off Back-Mounted Volume Control

The Optimus G2, which we've been waiting for, has been subject to rumor after rumor. A few days ago, we finally heard something official that probably tells us the G2 will have a Snapdragon 800 processor (LG and Qualcomm stopped just short of explicitly naming the device), but tonight we've got something a little more fun.

Infamous leaker @EVLeaks has just dropped a series of still images that look to be from a video subtitled "Learning from you." They show the G2 and its rumored back-mounted controls.

LG And Qualcomm Announce 'Next G Series Smartphone' With Snapdragon 800 Processor

Earlier this evening, LG (finally) announced the successor to the Optimus G. While the phone was not explicitly named in LG's press release, we can only assume it will be the Optimus G2, the phone we've been hoping for for some time now.

evleaks Posts Photo Of Unknown LG Handset – 'G2? Just A Guess…'

If there's one thing that never goes out of style in the Android community, it's rumors. Oh, and leaks. Around Google I/O and "Nexus season," leaks and rumors abound. Some Nexus-related, some … not. Today, one of tech's most prolific leaksters, evleaks, let loose an image of an unspecified LG handset. Posting to Facebook, evleaks asked "G2? Just a guess…" as speculations began whirling.

The device, which has an undeniably sparse front side (of which the most interesting aspect is the speaker grill), bears all the normal sensors, no hardware keys or buttons, a huge screen, small bezels, and a sheet of glass that appears to feature a comfortable (yet subtle) curve on all sides.

T-Mobile And HTC Haven't Forgotten myTouch 3G Slide And G2, Minor Updates Available For Both

These updates might not amount to much, but it's always nice to see official updates to older devices. I'm talking really old, like the myTouch 3G Slide and the G2, both released all the way back in 2010. If you're in possession of said devices and are not yet running a custom ROM with something more fresh than Android 2.2 and 2.3.4 respectively (why not?), here's what's coming:

  • Security patch
  • Improved software stability

Descriptive, isn't it?

Hulu Plus For Android Updated With Support For EVO 4G, T-Mobile G2, myTouch 4G, And HTC Thunderbolt

Hulu's initial rollout of the Plus app for Android probably didn't wow too many subscribers - after all, it was only available for six devices (the Nexus One, Nexus S, HTC Inspire 4G, Motorola Droid II, Motorola Droid X, and Motorola Atrix). Now, four new devices are joining the fray, bringing the total number of supported devices to ten:

  • HTC EVO 4G
  • HTC Thunderbolt
  • T-Mobile G2
  • T-Mobile myTouch 4G

While that still leaves plenty of Android users out in the cold, this is still a step in the right direction, especially with the addition of the ever-popular EVO 4G.

The newest version of Sense UI has been somewhat of a hot topic amongst HTC owners, as HTC itself said that certain aspects of it has been reserved for newer devices only. HTC Desire HD, Desire Z, Incredible S Set To Join The Gingerbread Club, But...

SlashGear has confirmed with HTC today that the Desire HD, Desire Z, and Incredible S (along with the standard Desire) will be receiving the bump to Gingerbread some time in the second quarter of this year. But, there's a potential caveat: US phones might not be included.

It remains unknown if HTC was also referring to carrier-branded versions of the aforementioned devices in its statement, and if it was, if those devices would be receiving updates at the same time as their unlocked, HTC-branded siblings.

HTC Desire Z: Long-Term Ownership Hardware Review

Take a look at the top tier of Android phones right now and you might notice something. They all kind of look the same. Black front fascia, large touchscreen, minimal waistline. Boring, right? Well that's just the way things are going. Alternatives to the slate way of living are becoming increasingly rare, which puts the HTC Desire Z with its hardware keyboard in an intriguing light. With its metallic accents and suave grey pallet, the Desire Z cuts a different path.
