Droid Incredible To Receive Update To Froyo August 18

In case you Droid Incredible owners were jealous that the much older Motorola Droid was getting Froyo, you can rest easy – your Froyo update is good and ready, and it’s set to go out Wednesday, August 18.

The update is over-the-air, so your phone should prompt you to install it. If you don’t want to wait, you can check for the update manually by going to Settings, About Phone, then System Updates. Verizon employees already have access to the update, so there shouldn’t be any problems or bugs.

HTC Lexikon and Bee Leaked, Both Running Froyo With Sense

If you're willing to believe a Chinese website by the name of “911sniper,” then you may be excited to hear that HTC is prepping two new Froyo-running handsets with Sense on top, though neither will be “superphones” or very ground-breaking.

The first handset, called the HTC Lexikon, has a 3.8” 480x800 resolution screen with a 5MP camera and an 800 MHz processor and a full QWERTY keyboard. Nothing mind-blowing, but with this and the Samsung Intercept, it’s nice to see 800 MHz becoming the standard for mid-range Android phones. On the other hand, we have the HTC Bee, with a 3.2” 240x320 resolution screen, a 5MP camera with flash, and a 528 MHz processor.

Second Droid OTA Coming, Brings Flash Support

It looks like the Droid has a second over-the-air update headed its way. The first, which started being pushed out yesterday, was FRG01B and brought Froyo to the most popular Android around. However, a Verizon email tells us that this second update will give Droid owners the ability to download Adobe Flash 10.1, leading us to believe that it is indeed the leaked FRG22 build.

HTC: EVO 4G Users On Unofficial Froyo Update Getting Their OTA Update To Official Version Now. Also, Source Code For Official Update Available

HTC just tweeted that EVO 4G users who downloaded the unofficial Froyo build but for whatever inexplicable reason have not yet manually upgraded to the official build will be getting it via an OTA update, starting today. I appreciate HTC’s dedication here, but I think this probably the smallest target device group for an OTA ever.

If you’re still on the unofficial version and can’t wait for the OTA update, you can download it directly here (read the instructions in this thread). It does require a little work (you need a PC and a USB cable), but isn’t by any means difficult.

Official Motorola Droid Android 2.2 Froyo Update (Still FRG01B) Now Being Pushed Out OTA

It's been 8 days since the original Android 2.2 Froyo update for the 1st Motorola Droid leaked out online, and Verizon has been taking its sweet time to make it available to the masses, leaving us guessing whether FRG01B was indeed the final version of this Éclair->Froyo update and whether serious stop-ship bugs were discovered.

Turns out, nothing has changed - FRG01B is exactly the version that Verizon started pushing out to the Droids a few hours ago. So if you haven't flashed the update a little over a week ago, you just missed out on 8 sweet days with the frozen deliciousness.

Screen Colour Calibration Gets A Universal Version, Takes Aim At More Phones

After several rapidly-iterated versions, storm99999’s Calibration Settings hack is branching out from the Nexus One. Now at version 4.1, the hack has morphed into a standalone application with a GUI allowing you to set individual levels for each of the Red, Blue and Green subpixel channels.

It also no longer requires CyanogenMod 6 – I have it running fine on my rooted, stock FRF91 Nexus One. A user has reported that it is working well on their Samsung Galaxy S running the leaked JP3 firmware. This is especially good news because of wide-spread complaints about blue tinting on the SGS’s Super AMOLED panel. It’s quite possible that this will work on any Android device if you have SuperUser permissions.

MP4Nation Announce Nationite MIDnite $200 7” Froyo Tablet

What with the fuss that the KMart-exclusive Augen GenTouch 78 has been getting lately, it seems like an opportune time to release a budget-oriented Android tablet that is actually purchasable. MP4Nation.net, an online store with a penchant for Asian PMPs and audio players, has had its Nationite-branded line of products for quite a while now, and on their blog today they unveiled the latest addition : the Nationite MIDnite, a 7” tablet rocking the latest version of Android. It is based on the WITS A81e, and unlike the RocketFish tablet tweeted by Best Buy CTO Robert Stephens it has some pretty hard specs to pore over.

Early EVO 4G Froyo OTA Adopters, Rejoice. An Update From 3.26.651.3 (Friday Leak) To 3.26.651.6 (Monday Final) Now Available

The wizards at xda-developers have woven their magic once again and solved the woes of those EVO 4G owners who upgraded their handsets to HTC's leaked 3.26.651.3 version of Froyo last Friday.

Problem

If you remember, shortly after the .3 leak was posted, HTC announced that it wasn't the final Froyo release. Indeed, a few days later, on Monday, the world saw a new, this time official, OTA with the version number ending in .6. The problem was, however, that there was no way to update from .3 to .6, which left the early adopters empty handed.

Solution

Pojoman, one of xda's members, managed to acquire the necessary upgrade file from Sprint (props to his connections there) and made it, along with installation instructions, available to all the EVO pioneers.

Motorola Droid Android 2.2 Froyo OTA Is Now Live! Download Yours Now (FRG01B)

What a great day for Motorola Droid owners - your Froyo update that you've been patiently waiting for is finally here. You can upgrade your ESE81 (that's your old Éclair) to what is now called FRG01B (this is your Froyo) using the link below.

It is unclear yet whether the upgrade is showing up when you ask the phone to update in Settings > About > System updates but we have preliminary reports that it is not. However, you can upgrade manually using the procedure below.

This post will be updated throughout the day.

Warning #1: Applying this update will unroot you if you are currently rooted, pending further notice.

O2 FroYo Update Schedule Revealed

The official German O2 Twitter account posted a tweet this weekend that the Motorola Milestone (better known as the Verizon Droid to us Yanks) will be getting Android 2.2 in mid-late September of this year. Also contained in the announcement was news that the HTC Desire will be receiving FroYo in mid-to-late August, and the Galaxy S in mid-September while the Flipout and X10 are still TBD. It’s great to see these phones receiving prompt updates to the latest OS version after the slower rollouts of some of the previous updates (We’re looking at you Eclair).
