Pokémon GO lands in France and passes 50 million Play Store downloads

Niantic's Pokémon GO is something of a dichotomy. I've never seen such a deeply flawed, broken game (with such poor support!) remain is such high demand. This weekend France, the last of the major Western European markets without entry to the augmented reality game, finally gets access to it in the Play Store. France follows Germany, the UK, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and many, many European countries smaller than it in terms of both size and population - it's not clear why France had to wait so long, but at least they're in good company. Update: as a commenter pointed out, the company delayed the release following the latest terror attack in France.

AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Google offer free calls and texts to France following Nice attack

These posts are never fun to write, and we've been writing a lot of them lately. Odds are you've heard about the attack in Nice, France that took place several hours ago. I won't recount the specifics, but at times like this all the backbiting among the big US wireless companies stops. AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile have all announced free calls and texts to France so those with loved ones in the region can check in. Google is also waving fees for calls to Nice on its various platforms.

French Media Company Vivendi Attempts Hostile Takeover Of Prolific Mobile Publisher Gameloft

Gameloft has been one of the most consistent (if not one of the most respected) game developers since the beginning of the mobile gaming boom, though the company began on consoles. Vivendi, an enormous French media empire with interests in music, movies, video games, and pretty much every other entertainment industry, is attempting a hostile stock takeover of Gameloft, according to Bloomberg. The larger company has already purchased over 30% of Gameloft's stock, and is now offering 6 euros a share for the remaining amount.

Gameloft began humbly, founded in Paris by former executives of Ubisoft. Gameloft was one of the only companies that made high-end games for the old iOS and Windows Mobile platforms.

Later this weekend American telecom companies have followed suit. Carriers Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint are allowing their customers to call French telephone numbers without incurring international calling charges, and Skype is allowing free SkypeOut (VOIP-to-standard phone number) calls into France.

Google Makes Hangouts Calls To France Free In The Wake Of Attacks In Paris

After a series of shootings and explosions occurred in Paris Friday evening, Google has made calls to France via its Hangouts service temporarily free. Callers can use the Hangouts app on Android, iOS, and the web to place calls to the country without incurring the normal international charges. The Google+ post making the announcement did not specify any particular countries, so presumably free calls are available from any location where Hangouts can be used. It's not clear if Google Voice users are also being given free calls.

Germany And France Join Short List Of Countries With Google Play TV Shows, Germany And Spain Get Play Promo Codes

Until today, just five countries had access to Google Play TV shows: Australia, Canada, the US, UK, and Japan. Now, Germany and France have joined the rather [frustratingly] exclusive Play TV club, and that's not all. Germany and Spain are also getting access to redeemable Google Play credit promo codes starting today, both having already been in the list of countries with Google Play gift cards.

While Play Movies is available in dozens of countries, licensing television shows can be much more difficult. With many different distribution deals often occurring even within different regions of a given country, let alone for different seasons of a show, the number of deals that have to be made can be quite ridiculous.

Sony's Xperia Z5 Series Pricing Surfaces Across Europe — From €549 For The Z5 Compact To €799 For The Z5 Premium, Even More In The UK

Sony is one of the very rare companies who know how to balance the right level of features between smaller and larger devices. Their newly announced Z5 series has a very powerful Z5 Compact, a good Z5, and a slightly fluffed up Z5 Premium, all without compromising on processor, RAM, or camera performance.

However, that comes at a price and we're just starting to discover what the tag will be on these smartphones. Sony's announcement didn't include any pricing details, but retailers all across Europe and the UK have begun listing the different Z5 devices on their sites. Here are the known amounts of euros and pounds you should part with:

So yeah, that's a boatload of money for the Z5 Premium and a lesser one for the other two models.
