Saving money can be hard, but Level is here to help. No, it doesn't modify your behavior through aggressive negative reinforcement when you spend recklessly. However, it does link up to your bank account and help you track spending and build a plan. It's pretty too.

If you've ever set up a financial app like Mint, you'll be familiar with the process here. It can be a little bit of black magic to get things flagged correctly, but once you've pointed Level to all your income and bills, it tracks your spending and tells you how much breathing room you have.

It's hard to love Intuit. Their most well-known product, Quicken, is what people use to manage their finances, and budgeting is about as exciting as watching your weight. That said, they've found immense success on Windows because their software was usable and, eventually, became a standard that users could expect banks and other financial services to be compatible with. Unfortunately, their Android app has not garnered the same reputation. Last year's release was plagued by a number of issues, and judging from the screenshots provided, it doesn't look like all that much has changed.

For the last couple of years, I've been using Mint to manage my bank account and credit cards. It offers a quick and easy way for me to know how much money I (don't) have at any given moment, as well as constantly monitor my credit cards. For me, simple is good - I don't bother with investments of any kind, so I have no use for a service that offers that sort of management.

Intuit, the company behind Quicken for Windows and Mac, has released a free mobile companion app for users of Quicken 2013 for Windows.

Available on both phones and tablets, Quicken for Android allows you to sync your accounts over from your desktop so that you can keep an eye on your finances whilst you're on the move.

Rather than just offering a stripped down version of the existing desktop application, Intuit has built most of the features that are available on the desktop into the mobile app; you can view your spending by category, with graphs available on the tablet version, and create alerts to notify you of activity on your account.
