The CyanogenMod team has announced the release candidate phase of CM 10.1 is over – the final version is going to drop later today. If your device has been getting the RC builds, you can expect a final version of this popular ROM to be waiting for you in the morning.

Devices that haven't been updated to release candidate builds up to now won't be part of this first push. That includes Tegra 2 phones and tablets, as well as some Samsung Exynos devices.

Back in late December, Tapatalk HD beta left the forum-only download arrangement and made its way into the Play Store as a free download. Now, the beta period has ended, the aforementioned freebie is no more, and the first stable client is available.

For those who may not be familiar with Tapatalk, it's essentially a way to natively interact with many forums from your Android device. This prevents you from having to deal with the cumbersome (and not-touch-friendly) interface of most message boards.

After numerous nightly and monthly builds, CyanogenMod 10 is finally ready for its stable release. The custom ROM is already available to download for the Samsung Galaxy S II LTE, LG Optimus Black, and the Samsung Galaxy S III (both Verizon and Sprint models).

The latest version of CyanogenMod includes a number of new features, such as an 'expandable desktop' mode, and a built-in, root-enabled file manager, as well as support for new devices.

Total Commander, my favorite go-to app for powerful dual-pane file management on both Windows and Android (see our overview for features and screenshots), reached v1.0 final today, dropping the incredibly annoying mandatory expiration which was present in the release candidates. One such expiration caught me on a plane with no Internet access and forced me to literally turn back time on my tablet just to get it to work again.

Kemco Games, the team behind a slew of popular role-playing games for Android, has introduced the English version of Aeon Avenger today, bringing to market an impressively polished time-travelling RPG. Like Kemco's other RPGs, Aeon Avenger features gameplay reminiscent of old Final Fantasy adventures, and delivers a "story of revenge through time and space."

Aeon's story follows a young man named Lake, whose rural home town is attacked by "the man in black," who also murdered Lake's parents.

The road to CyanogenMod 7.1, undoubtedly the largest Android custom ROM, now covering a mind-boggling number of devices (68), has been long and rough. We've been hearing rumblings that the final release was almost here for a number of days (just watch the video of the CM sessions from the Big Android BBQ below), but a couple of hours ago it really did seep through and end up at CM download mirrors across the web.

The latest update to Flash 10.2 for Android (version number 10.2.157.51) hit the Market earlier today and introduced several enhancements, most notably hardware acceleration for 720p videos (mentioned here earlier), albeit only on Honeycomb tablets.

Browser integration in Honeycomb has also been improved, and "important bug fixes and security enhancements," including a fix to the "critical" vulnerability discovered a few weeks ago, have been made across the board - not just in Honeycomb.

CyanogenMod, or simply CM, is hands down the largest and the most widely used Android custom ROM family on the planet, with support for 30 devices, both tablets and phones, from hundreds of developers all over the world. Over the past 4 months, these developers have been sweating day and night upgrading CM6's Froyo codebase to Gingerbread, and today CM7 is finally fully baked.

Most CM 7.0 mirrors are already up (with the rest going up shortly), so if you are anxious to try out the version for your device, head over to the CyanogenMod Stable Downloads page and download away.

The moment we've all been waiting for is finally here. A few hours ago, the full version of the most anticipated Android game ever, Angry Birds, has hit the Android Mar... errrr... GetJar Market, exclusively. Instead of uploading to the official Market first, Rovio decided to go for an alternative market called GetJar, probably in a deal to promote it. The Market version is promised "soon," which would be good right about now, as GetJar apparently wasn't prepared for the influx of visitors and promptly crashed for a couple of hours.

Last week, I had to deliver disappointing news about the full version of Angry Birds, the most addicting game on Android, getting delayed till this week, mostly due to proper multi-tasking support. Today, I'm glad to report that not only did Rovio commit to a Friday (tomorrow) release, as evident from the screenshot below, but also sent us a full version to play with.

Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to shoot a video review, but I did, however, collect some interesting screenshots together with all the info you need to know, presented in my most favorite bullet point style:

  • the version that was sent to us contains ads (see screenshot #7 below) which shows up from time to time, I'd say about once per level
  • in our email exchange, the company also hinted at an interesting distribution model, which they didn't disclose.
