If cartoony tower defense is your thing and you haven't yet bought into the Fieldrunners franchise, you're missing out on some of the best TD action you can get your hands on. Colorful, fun, and graphically pleasing, Fieldrunners is a breath of fresh air in an otherwise tired gaming genre. And today, the sequel hit the Play Store.

Fieldrunners 2 brings even more guns, bombs, lasers, and other deadly tools to the scene, while still keeping that same familiar look and feel that made the original such a fantastic game. The sequel features over 20 hours of gameplay, along with a "smart" UI that "creates dynamic, realistic paths through the battlefield;" 20 different weapons, and an all-new option to add trenches, bridges, and tunnels to the mix.

The original FieldRunners was easily one of the best tower defense games I've ever played. While I may be pretty awful at the genre as a whole, FR offered nice visuals, fluid and fun animations, and an overall good experience. I'm sure many of you share my sentiments on the title and have been actively waiting for its sequel to finally make its way to Android. Good news! It's coming next month.

According to Subatomic's blog, the company is currently looking for players to volunteer to beta test the upcoming sequel, which, judging by the released screenshots, looks pretty fantastic.

It's that time again, indie gamers: the much-loved Humble Bundle has returned for a third go-round on Android. As before, you can name your own price for popular Android games Fieldrunners, Bit.Trip Beat, SpaceChem and Uplink, giving the cash to worthy non-profits Child's Play, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, or a combination thereof. If you pay more than the average (currently just below $6) you get a bonus game, Spirits. All games include a free digital soundtrack and desktop versions for PC, Mac and Linux, with Steam integration for those who are so inclined.

The games featured have enjoyed some notable success already: Fieldrunners is a staple of the tower defense genre, Bit.Trip Beat is an appropriately trippy mashup of Breakout-style nostalgia and rhythm gaming, SpaceChem brings pseudoscience and ambient puzzles together, and Uplink simulates "hacking" in text-based international espionage.

Ultra-popular iOS game Fieldrunners HD is finally making its way to Android as of tomorrow. The best part? It will be free in the Amazon Appstore for the first 24 hours - after that, the price will jump to $2.99. If you don't have access to the Amazon Appstore, fret not, as it will also be in the Android Market for the discounted price of $0.99 for the first 24 hours (it can't be free in the Android Market because once an app is listed as free, it remains such for the rest of its lifecycle).

Update 7/7/11: Like clockwork, both the Amazon link (free for today) and the Android Market link ($0.99 for today - use the widget towards the bottom of the page) are now up!
