Sudo Make Me An App has just released Sudo QuickLaunch to the Play Store, an app that handily replaces Google Search's swipe-up gesture in Jelly Bean with a list of your favorite apps.

If you're like me, you hit the search bar in Jelly Bean more often than you swipe up to get to Google Search, so Sudo QuickLaunch is a welcome addition that not only makes that gesture useful, but can keep your home screen clutter-free.

After taking a closer look at our top five favorite apps from June, it only seemed right to follow up with another roundup of our top favorites in the game category. Unable to settle on just five games for this roundup, we decided to include six of June's best entries into the Play Store. Of course, there were a ton of worthy competitors for the top six spots, so choosing wasn't easy, but here are our favorites:

Project 83113

First up is Project 83113, a cute sidescrolling platformer from NCsoft.

Once again, it's time to round up our top five favorite apps from the previous month. We rounded up dozens of great new apps in May, but for those who are short on time or internal storage, we've selected five apps that really shined and are worthy of your attention. It's not easy to choose just five apps with so many great candidates each month, but here they are:

CallApp

CallApp, which I had the pleasure of reviewing late last month, is an ingenious application that reminds me that my smartphone can actually function as a phone, and which makes telephony what it should have been all along.

Google TV still exists. It's important to be reminded once in a while because, while Google TV promised to be our deliverer from the evil world of crappy cable box interfaces, so far the company has yet to deliver. Today's update to the TV & Movies app, though, is a step in the right direction. For starters, Google has finally done what we've all wanted since there were more than three channels: now you can see what shows are on just your favorite channels on a single screen.

Comcast's XFINITY TV for Android got updated today after more than half a year of silence. The app, which allows XFINITY customers to control their cable boxes and DVRs, received the following additions and tweaks with version 1.4.1.002 (up from 1.2.0.005):

  • We now automatically detect your channel lineup. That means no more fussing with having to select your zip code and lineup before using the app.
  • Select your favorite channels in the TV listing grid to make it easier to find what you want to watch.

Introduction

About half a year ago, my friend and colleague David Ruddock posted an article showcasing his eight favorite root-only apps.

Many of you read it, enjoyed it, and found the information contained within quite helpful, so we've decided to make it an Android Police series.

Part deux begins right now.

As the Android platform celebrated its 2nd birthday last month, I thought now would be a good time to take a step back and look at all the music players available on the Market right now. Only a year ago, there were just a couple of worthy contenders, but now we have a choice of more than a dozen very good and popular apps and a few hundred not so popular ones.
