While it's not a major Android version update, Sprint is rolling out a pretty good upgrade to Evo LTE customers. The over-the-air software will add the ability to stream audio/video to a television set or other display via an MHL cable. Neat!

The update will also bring a variety of improvements, including to WiFi, Bluetooth compatibility, and the proximity sensor while listening to voicemail. So hopefully you won't have to worry about your face pressing buttons now.

Hi, Android! Sorry your present is a little late, it took a while to wrap it. Five years ago yesterday, Google's then-CEO Eric Schmidt joined other members of the newly-formed Open Handset Alliance to announce the Android operating system. Back then, we were still nearly a year away from an actual Gphone (and yes, people really called it that) and Sprint and T-Mobile were the only US carriers even interested. Now, Android is installed on over 400 million devices, nearly every carrier in the world wants a piece of the action, and the platform as a whole is the single largest mobile OS ever.

Owners of Sprint's One X-inspired EVO 4G LTE may be interested to know that they can expect a minor software update to begin rolling out over the air today. The update, which carries software build 2.13.651.1, brings the device up to Android 4.0.4 with Sense 4.1 on top, meaning the menu bar fix the HTC One X got a few weeks ago has arrived, among other things.

The update's other offerings include a fix for random browser closes, a minor Bluetooth fix, an updated version of both Google Wallet and Sprint's Visual Voicemail, and an LTE scanning improvement that should help users better find Sprint's burgeoning 4G network.

Manufacturers, you're awful at naming things. Sorry. It's true. In many cases, you've either muddied the brand of your flagship devices, or made it incredibly difficult for customers to know what they should be asking for when they walk into a store. This is probably not a good thing since you want customers to buy your stuff. More than that, though, you want them to love your stuff, so they'll buy more of it.

If you have or will in the near future purchase an Evo LTE from Sprint, HTC has a special treat for you: $25 in movie money. HTC Watch, which is the Taiwanese company's offering in the streaming movie market, lets users buy or rent movies and TV shows, very similarly to how the Play Store operates. If you already have an Evo LTE, just sign up for an HTC Watch account and you should receive your credit immediately.

If you bought a pre-LTE Evo phone in the last year and you've been feeling left out in the cold, worry not. Sprint and HTC are in the process of bringing Ice Cream Sandwich to your device. If your device happens to be an Evo 3D or Evo Design, that is. The older flagship Evo and this year's midrange phone are slated to reach Android 4.0 sometime in August.

Yes, we know that once again, it's not Jelly Bean.

In all honesty, I get a little more excited than I probably should when it seems like someone's marketing department has accidentally revealed juicy details. Today, after seeing Jelly Bean 4.1 teased in a thumbnail image and checkout page (which was quickly redacted), it seems that Sprint may have let slip the existence of a white version of the HTC EVO 4G LTE. In a banner found on the Now Network's website earlier today, we see a white Samsung Galaxy SII (nothing surprising there) right next to a white and silver version of the EVO LTE.

The EVO fan blog Good and EVO is reporting that simultaneous voice calling and 3G data (SV-DO) is working on Sprint's HTC EVO 4G LTE. Some of you may be aware that unlike GSM carriers (e.g. AT&T), CDMA carriers (e.g. Sprint) are unable to serve voice and data over 3G simultaneously. So if you were on a CDMA device talking to someone, it would be impossible for you to connect to the internet.
