I order a lot of stuff online, and odds are that you do, too. We can't always be home to accept our deliveries and bring them in immediately, which means they just get left out on the porch for everyone to see. Having a video doorbell to replace your standard doorbell is a huge upgrade to your home, especially when they are this affordable. Beyond just packages, knowing who's at your door before getting off of the couch is priceless, and makes this deal worth it on its own. Ahead of the annual Amazon Prime Day event, Eufy has discounted its popular dual-camera video doorbell to just $130. This means you'll save $70 on the purchase, and this deal brings it to within just a few dollars of its all-time lowest price.

Eufy admits its cameras were not always end-to-end encrypted

The Anker sub-brand was caught in a privacy scandal

4
By

For a long time, Anker's Eufy sub-brand was one of our go-to security camera recommendations. The company then became embroiled in a security and privacy scandal, with supposedly end-to-end encrypted footage accessible via unencrypted web streams. The company long refused to acknowledge the problem, going so far as to claim that what researchers and journalists had clearly achieved was impossible. After a month of stonewalling, the company has finally provided more satisfactory answers, though we’d still be cautious about taking its word for it.

Eufy finally addresses security camera issues, promises to 'uphold community's trust'

An 'attempt to better separate fact from fiction'

If you've been following smart home news at all closely in recent weeks, you'll no doubt be aware of the situation Eufy's found itself in. In late November, security researcher Paul Moore discovered (and publicized) a number of potentially serious vulnerabilities in Eufy's security cameras. Weeks later, the company quietly changed verbiage on its website in ways that made it look like Eufy was trying to downplay some of the more ostensibly privacy-focused features of its products and services. Now, Eufy has released an official statement about the whole kerfuffle, including a commitment to "continue to work hard to uphold our community’s trust in our products, services, and processes."

In recent weeks, Anker-owned smart home brand Eufy has been embroiled in scandal after security consultant Paul Moore discovered a number of potentially serious vulnerabilities that could compromise user privacy, including one particularly gnarly issue that apparently made video feeds from Eufy cameras accessible over the internet with no authentication. Eufy's been slow to respond publicly, and now, it's removed a number of privacy-focused statements from its website.

Eufy Security app adds cloud disclaimer it should have had all along

Notification thumbnails are, in fact, stored in the cloud

By

In late November, security researcher and consultant Paul Moore discovered a handful of flaws in Eufy's connected security cameras. While the most attention-grabbing issue Moore raised is a vulnerability that hypothetically allowed live camera feeds to be accessed over a web browser without authentication, he also discovered that video thumbnails were being uploaded to and stored in the cloud, seemingly surreptitiously, even though he'd declined to use Eufy's cloud services. At the time, Eufy pledged to add language to its Security app making it clear that enabling certain notification functionality would necessitate some of your data making its way to the cloud. In an app update rolling out now, as spotted by ZDNet, the company's done just that.

Last year, a "software bug" at Anker-owned Eufy caused a hubbub when multiple owners of the company's connected security cameras were able to access live feeds and saved video recordings from Eufy-branded cameras belonging to other people. Now, Eufy's in similar hot water again. Security researcher Paul Moore recently unearthed a couple of serious security flaws in Eufy devices — including one that could allow people to access unencrypted, live video feeds from Eufy cameras without any kind of authentication.

Eufy's new tracker is like a cheaper AirTag that works with Android

But you'll still need an iPhone for the best experience

Tracking tags are all the rage these days, and aside from Tile, the biggest name in the game remains Apple's AirTags. It relies on a network of nearby Apple devices to relay its location through the Find My network. Although Samsung offers something similar, in the US, nothing is capable of besting Apple's game — AirTags are stronger than ever as people continue to buy more Apple gear. Thankfully, Eufy just made its own Find My-compatible tag, and for a change, this one actually works on Android phones too.

Robot vacuums are perfect for sweeping your floors frequently without getting your hands dirty. Fortunately, with robot vacuums like the Eufy RoboVac G10, life's easier and the floors are cleaner. But this particular sweeper is on sale this weekend and for at its lowest price on record.

Shoppers certainly aren't hurting for options when it comes to smart home security solutions, with dozens of companies offering full ranges of intelligent cameras, video doorbells, and connected door locks. If you've picked up even just a few of these, though, you may already have found that juggling multiple apps, to say nothing of keeping everything charged, can be a real headache. Anker sub-brand Eufy is aiming to make this a bit easier by combining multiple devices into one with its upcoming Video Smart Lock.

Trade shows like CES are all about wowing attendees with presentation and spectacle, and while that may be easy if you're showing off 120-inch high-refresh-rate OLED TVs, it's a little trickier when you're dealing with lower-key smart home and mobile devices. We've got plenty of love to go around, though, and for CES 2022 we're absolutely making a point to check in with companies like Anker, taking a look at all the new devices and accessories it's introducing, including a few under its eufy and Nebula sub-brands.
