This is seriously impressive stuff - the guys from the unrevoked team did it again, and this version 3.2 is definitely their best release yet. Most of the credit, outside of the core unrevoked team, belongs to Sebastian Krahmer for discovering the exploit that works on all supported phones.

This article mentions rooting, Nandroid, and flashing of custom ROMs. If you’re unfamiliar with some of the terms, hit up our primers here:

HTC Desire

For some time, the Droid Eris on Verizon Wireless has had a bug that causes the user to be unable to hear the person on the other end during a phone call, and/or be heard by said person. A member of the Verizon Wireless forums, after receiving Maintenance Release 4, is reporting that the issue appears to have been resolved with the patch.

Droid Eris OTA manual install link found

The update comes OTA and will reach most users in the coming weeks; however, you can download a signed zip from Google directly as well to get the fix right now.

To install, place the file on the root of your SD card, reboot your phone into recovery mode, and use the install update button; your Eris should automatically find the file and proceed to flash the update.

Eris-update2-600x448

As usual, Droid Life has come through with some Mr. Blurrycam photos. This time, they’re from Verizon and show that the Droid Eris will be receiving a software update on July 17th at midnight (ok – techincally, it’s July 16th at 11:59 PM – but for all intents and purposes, that’s the 17th). The update isn’t Android 2.2, but that shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise given that the phone has been discontinued. Still, when the 2.1 update rolled out to users, it brought a number of issues – most significantly:

  • Numerous syncing issues
  • Weather widget instability
  • Bluetooth compatability problems

Thankfully, the update looks to fix all that, as well as improve various other aspects of the phone.

HTC Droid Eris Should Be Getting The Android 2.1 OTA Update Today

It's finally here - today should be the day when Verizon starts rolling out the Android 2.1 OTA (over-the-air) update that we reported on a few days ago.

The update page on Verizon's site, which provides benefits of the new 2.1 OS as well as the update instructions, still mentions "Coming Soon!" as the release date.

That last part, however, apparently means today, May 11th, according to a MobileCrunch tipster who sent in this internal memo screen:

HTC Droid Eris Should Be Getting The Android 2.1 OTA Update Today

We know it says "tentatively scheduled" and Verizon doesn't exactly have the best track record with releasing 2.1 when it says it is, but we have a hunch that it will actually begin on time this time around.

Motorola robot screen test

Did you know Motorola has a Labs team that does cool things and then blogs about them? They're pretty cool like that. Correction: interesting piece of trivia - did you know MOTO Labs actually has nothing to do with Motorola? With a name like MOTO, one could think… well never mind, I apologize for the mistake.

The Finger Test

For example, in January they tested the screens on 4 flagship mobile phones by swiping a finger across the screen in a drawing app and recording the resulting patterns, complete with photos and a video.

The phones in the first test were:

  • Apple iPhone
  • HTC Droid Eris
  • Motorola Droid
  • Google Nexus One

The iPhone won with the straightest lines (no surprise here - the iPhone screen feels like butter), Eris and N1 were *kind of* accurate and the Motorola Droid was the most inaccurate.
