DroidIncredible

The love-child of HTC’s Passion and Verizon’s Droid moniker (please don’t sue us LucasFilms) is  beginning to feel more like a red-headed stepchild than a flagship device. Per Verizon’s website, new orders placed for the Droid Incredible won’t ship until August 3rd. While this is most likely for the same reason as previous delays (Shortage of Samsung AMOLED displays), Verizon previously claimed that demand would be “satisfied” some time in July.

Droid-Life has a source, including pictures and a video, showing that the Droid Incredible will be getting an OTA update… sometime. They don’t have an ETA, but it shouldn’t be far off. The key new features it brings are 720p video recording, 3G mobile hotspot, and (most importantly of all), the usual “DROID” red eye bootup.

Pretty awesome that when Android phones get OTA updates, they tend to bring awesome new features.

Cyanogen of CyanogenMod posted an update to his website earlier this evening on that status of and potential timeline for CyanogenMod 6. Key points below:

  • Will support Nexus One and Droid first, Dream/Sapphire shortly thereafter, and Slide a little later
  • Desire, Incredible, and EVO 4G will all be supported eventually (read: No ETA)
  • First experimental build expected to be available this weekend
  • Small incremental update to CyanogenMod 5 will also appear this weekend

This is big news, as CyanogenMod 6, a custom ROM, is based on the Android 2.2 Froyo source code.

As if the EVO and Incredible weren’t already great phones, it turns out both are capable of 802.11n.

Incredible

An FCC filing by HTC was posted a few days ago, revealing that the Droid Incredible packs a chip that supports 802.11n, though currently not supported by the OS itself. Speculation around the interwebs is that it means such support will be added in a future update from HTC. I’m slightly less convinced of this than the rest of the blogger-army, but more on that in a minute.

First Successful Root Achieved On The HTC Incredible By The Unrevoked Team

It looks like the Unrevoked team, the same one that brought you the one-click EVO root, has been playing around with some race conditions apparently present during the Incredibles' boot process, which allowed them to slowly and painfully root a couple of their phones.

The process is currently very manual and requires a lot of patience and careful timing but the Unrevoked team is not giving up, hoping to come up with a reliable method as soon as possible (they've been at it all day today).

droid incredible

Although it’s been almost a month since the Droid Incredible made its debut, many people are still waiting for their new phone to arrive amid a plethora of delays.

Verizon’s CEO, Lowell McAdam, has said that the delay is due to higher than expected demand for the device, after being sold out just hours after release on Verizon’s web store.

The main cause of the delay is the AMOLED display, which is produced by Samsung.

Amazon HTC Droid Incredible for $99

Wow, what a day. First, Wirefly.com announced a special price that was cheaper than Verizon's or Best Buy's, and now Amazon.com one-upped them and is currently offering the HTC Droid Incredible at $99!

That's $100 cheaper than VZW.com (which is currently sold out) or Best Buy, and comes with a FREE 2-day shipping when purchased with a service plan.

Moreover, Amazon traditionally doesn't charge any tax in most states. We are not sure whether they do on the phones or not so if someone could clarify that in the comments, it would be great.

Guys, we have incredible news (didn't expect me to start this post so originally, did you?).

Update: VZW.com is currently sold out of the Incredible but you can still get it from Wirefly.

Buy It With A Discount

Starting immediately, Wirefly.com, one of the biggest online mobile phone retailers, is opening up the sale of the HTC Droid Incredible for a low, low price of … well, unfortunately we can't tell you due to certain restrictions but here what we can tell you:

  • It's low.

HTC Desire rooted

HTC Desire

HTC Desire didn't last long - it was rooted (see here for an explanation and benefits of having your Android phone rooted) today by @PaulOBrien, the founder of MoDaCo.com - a forum dedicated to rooting and customizing mobile devices, similar to xda-developers.com.

Paul, who had claimed he was confident he could root the Desire earlier this month, was away for about 2 weeks. His return today was accompanied by the following photo, clearly showing a program called Superuser Permissions present on his Desire:

While the root method is currently not yet available, Paul promised to post it by tomorrow, Wednesday, April 28th.

nexus droid

If you were waiting for the Nexus One to hit Verizon anytime soon, the bad news is that you can wave goodbye to that ever happening as Google updated their phone sales website today, and the Verizon Nexus One is officially off the list.

The good news, however, is that instead of the N1, Google recommends you buy the Droid Incredible, calling it ‘a powerful Android phone and similarly feature-packed cousin of the Nexus One.’

Shortly after the changes were made to the site, the Boy Genius Report published a statement by Google that read

We won’t be selling a Nexus One with Verizon, and this is a reflection of the amazing innovation happening across the open Android ecosystem.
