Last week, HTC detailed the Android 4.0 update for several handsets, but many U.S. models were noticeable absent form the list. Today, the Taiwanese manufacturer has taken to its Facebook page to highlight some of the North American handsets that will see the update, most of which are on Verizon. It's a shorty, but goodie:

  • Thunderbolt
  • Rhyme
  • Droid Incredible 2
  • Rezound
  • Raider (Rogers and Bell in Canada)

Sadly, HTC left out any timeline details, so we really have no idea of knowing when to expect these update to roll out.

Stay tuned for more info on HTC's ICS update releases, as it has yet to announce Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile device update plans.

If you've got a Droid Incredible 2, you may want to grab it and hit the Settings > About phone > System updates option, because a new OTA update just started rolling out. This one is mostly a big fixer, but it does add a bit of new functionality to the device:

Security Features:

  • Includes Google BT/DigiNoTar security patch.
  • Includes Google security patch for upgrading libpng to 1.2.46
  • Includes Wi-Fi password security patch.

Device Features:

  • Support local video playback when in Airplane Mode.
  • 5 bar Received Signal Strength Indicator support.
  • Improvements to Clock and Alarm features.
  • The "Disable While Roaming" selection will work accurately when roaming in Canada.

Since the beginning of time, there has been but one rule among men: release GPL source code on time. For those who choose to ignore this rule, terrible things ensue; most of which are so horrific, I dare not speak the details. The code has always been upheld by the law, but one foul beast has found a way to circumvent the system and hold the source for weeks, even months, too long: HTC.

I've always wanted to give some sort of dramatic introduction like that. Joking aside, though, HTC released a whole gaggle of source code to its developer repository this morning, encompassing devices both new and old:

  • Salsa
  • EVO 4G Gingerbread
  • Droid Incredible 2 Gingerbread
  • Sensation
  • EVO 3D
  • ChaCha
  • Desire Z

And we all know what that means: full custom kernels are on their way!

While the official Gingerbread OTA for the Incredible 2 started rolling out a couple of days ago, there are some users running a previously leaked version of 2.3 that are left out in the cold with no way of updating - until now, that is. Thanks to an anonymous tipster calling himself Pig Benis, we've gotten a hold of the official RUU from Verizon with the build number 2.18.605.4 (the same as the OTA) for your flashing pleasure.

This will get you up to date with the latest as of July 13th stock build from HTC, so if you're tinkering with your device and something goes horribly awry, you can use this to save the day.

  • Improved word selection and copy functionality
  • Alarm notifications turned off while in emergency mode
  • Improved stability reduces device resets and lockups
  • NY Times added to browser bookmarks
  • Addition of the Wireless Charging UI
  • New desktop dock app

If the update hasn't hit your device yet, you can manually check for it by heading into the Settings menu and tapping Software Update.

The geniuses behind the AlphaRevX unlocker, which a few weeks ago made rooting, recovery, and custom ROMs possible on the Droid Incredible S, Desire (CDMA and GSM), Wildfire, and Aria just released an updated beta v2, with support for Droid Incredible 2 (aka vivow, the Verizon CDMA version) and Desire S (aka saga).

Incredible 2 owners, it's the day you've been waiting for, which now makes these possible: Exclusive Download + Video: Root-Friendly Flashable Gingerbread Update For HTC Droid Incredible 2 [Leak], [Video] DROID Incredible 2 Bootloader Unlocked [S-OFF] By AlphaRev Team - no more teasing!

Update 7/10/11: The Windows version of AlphaRevX, which was pulled for some bug fixing, is now once again available for download.

If you've been considering the Droid Incredible 2 as your next phone, now is probably the best time to make the leap, as Wirefly has a pretty unbelievable deal going on: you can score this next-gen Droid for a mere $2 with a new two-year agreement (of course). If you're already a Verizon customer lookin' to grab this phone as an upgrade, it will still only set you back $50 (it's currently $200 at VZW). As always, there's no charge for shipping and it will be void of sales tax in most states.

Since the day it was released, the DROID Incredible 2 has been hard to get ahold of, especially if you prefer to do all of your business with Amazon Wireless. Well, I'm happy to tell you that it has dropped its "backordered" status, is in stock, and available at a pretty incredible price (no pun intended). You can grab this second-gen monster for the low price of $100 with a new two-year agreement, which is 50% off the price that you will pay at Verizon. If that wasn't enough, you'll also get free activation if you order it within the next three days.

It's April 28th, the official release date for the 2nd generation Droid Incredible from HTC, and if you haven't studied this phone in detail yet, you're probably wondering just what exactly has changed since the original "Dinc" entered the market last April. Let's have a look, shall we?

Key Differences

Network

First and foremost, just like the Droid 2 Global Edition, the new Incredible 2 is a world phone with both CDMA and GSM frequencies. Verizon Wireless provides the following interesting numbers:

  • voice service in over 220 countries
  • data in over 200 countries
  • 3G speeds in more than 125

Quite a step-up from the original already, isn't it?

April 28th is going to be a big day at Verizon for Android lovers, as three new phones are scheduled to hit the sales floor, adding even more choices to the already vast lineup of VZW Android powered goodness.

Samsung DROID Charge

First on the list is the Samsung DROID Charge. I realize that we've known the release date for several days, but it's definitely worth mentioning again since it's the first 4G phone to carry the DROID tag and will most likely take its place as the new flagship phone for VZW.

droid-charge-1

Specs:

  • 4G LTE
  • 4.3 Inch Super AMOLED Plus display
  • 1GHz Hummingbird processor
  • 8MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera
  • Mobile Hotspot with support for up to 10 devices
  • Android 2.2 with Samsung's TouchWiz interface
  • Price: $299 with a new two-year agreement

It is (unjustly) the most expensive phone on the list, with the fact that it runs on Verizon's 4G LTE network the only thing that it really has going for it.
