The Droid DNA may not have Boomsound, Ultrapixels, or other HTC-branded buzzwords, but it's most definitely the best HTC device you'll find on Verizon right now. And if you're dead set on not paying more than a fifty spot for a new phone, the DNA is your ticket to a high-end smartphone that won't break the bank - , so long as you're willing to buy directly from HTC.

It's pretty rare that we find the manufacturer of a device selling its phones cheaper than, say, Amazon Wireless or Wirefly, but that's exactly what HTC is doing here with the DNA.

DROID DNA Ends The Disappearing Act At VerizonWireless.com While LG Lucid Goes Missing [Updated]

Earlier today, the DROID DNA disappeared from VZW's site. This, combined with all the Verizon-bound HTC One rumors, prompted some in the Android community to wonder whether such a One variant is almost upon us - after all, why would Big Red take down one of its most powerful smartphones so suddenly? The vanishing act didn't last long, however, as the DNA just returned, seemingly alive and well:

It's unclear at this point whether the phone was briefly missing by mistake or Verizon put it back because people noticed, but we've reached out to the media relations team to find out and will update this space if they respond (which is unlikely to happen before Monday).

BBC News App Updated To Work On 1080p Devices, Adds Widgets And A Bit More Holo

The BBC News reader on Android got an update today that should please the pixel poppers among the audience. The app has been optimized to take advantage of Super Mega Ultra dense displays like on the Xperia Z and Droid DNA (to say nothing of the upcoming HTC One and Galaxy S 4). A pile of bugs have been squashed in the new update as well.

S-Off Now Available For The HTC One X/L, And Droid DNA–Here's How To Do It

So, you want S-Off on your One X/L, or Droid DNA? Done and done. Thanks to a crafty new "hack" by jcase and beaups, S-Off can easily be yours. As always, however there are a few pre-requisites, as well as some caveats to be aware of.

Firstly, you must have working adb and fastboot. If you don't know what that is, a quick Google search can answer it, and tell you how to get it. Your device must also be rooted and have SuperCID, no exceptions. This is requisite.

Devs work hard on exploits like this, and they risk bricking their own devices (or those of testers) in order to make it happen.

HTC Droid DNA To Get Updated To Version 2.04.605.2 710RD, Bringing A Slew Of Improvements

Verizon's newest Droid is set to receive a software update over the air, and it actually has a number of important fixes and improvements. This isn't going to bump the device up to a new version of Android, but it's still a hefty download at 103.5 MB.

Here is the full list of changes coming in the update:

User can load videos on HuluPlus
Improvements to Hotspot connectivity have been made
Improvements to Audio Quality for wired headsets and earpieces have been made
Bluetooth connectivity and volume level for specific models have been improved
Enhanced reliability and stability of the Contacts List have been made
Wi-Fi Connectivity has been improved
Improvements to default browser for zooming capability have been made
Incoming messages display with the correct timestamp
Enhanced Recent Apps functionality has been improved

Granted, a lot of this should not have been busted in the first place, but it's nice to see so many fixes in one package.

HTC Droid DNA Gets Root, Custom Recovery, And Modified Kernel Ahead Of Official Release

That sure didn't take long. Just two days after the official announcement - and still a few days away from retail availability - the Droid DNA has already been rooted and gotten some goodies from famed Android modder/hacker dsb9938. Apparently the DNA is unlockable using HTC's official bootloader unlock tool, which allows a custom kernel to be flashed. The first available kernel has only been slightly modified to allow root in adb connections - a requisite in order to flash the custom recovery and root the device.

After going through the unlock process, the kernel is flashable via fasboot. With that out of the way, you're free to flash the recovery (ported to the DNA by developer Utkanos), which is also flashed with fastboot.

If you're looking for the latest and greatest on Verizon, chances are you're curious about the DROID DNA. While we'll have our review up some time in the next week, if you can't wait, pre-orders are live on Verizon right now. But paying full price on a new, on-contract phone? That's for chumps, am I right?

Luckily, Wirefly also has the DNA up for pre-order - $150 on a new subscriber agreement or upgrade. That's 50 bucks less than Verizon. And considering this phone is insanely powerful, that's a pretty great price. Hands on With The HTC DROID DNA: So Many Pixels!

Greetings from New York! I’m here at HTC’s event checking out the DROID DNA.

The DNA’s claim to fame (besides the ridiculous name) is that it has, literally, the best display ever made for a phone. This thing is packing a 1920x1080 resolution on a five inch screen. That's pixel density of 440ppi! The display is a SuperLCD 3 panel, which makes it a generation better than the previous Best Screen Ever, the HTC One X display.

So how does it look in person? Simply amazing. You don't see pixels anymore, just a smooth, perfect image. Color reproduction is accurate and beautiful, and it has an 80 degree viewing angle.
