T-Mobile's Galaxy Exhibit 4G Gets A Software Update (2.3.6), But You'll Have To Go Through Kies To Get It

The T-Mobile Galaxy Exhibit 4G—formerly known as the Exhibit II 4G before a software update rebranded the device, because I guess you can do that—is receiving another update today. Sorry, it's not Ice Cream Sandwich. As a consolation prize, though, you get stability improvements and bug fixes!

The new build (T679UVLG3) will only be available via Kies, so you'll need a desktop computer to be able to download it. Unfortunately, there's not much in the way of a significant changelog, but what we do have is right here:

CyanogenMod 9 Is Coming To The HTC EVO 3D (GSM), Nightlies Now Available

When CyanogenMod 9.0 stable was released a couple of weeks ago, the list of supported devices was dominated by Samsung and Sony Ericsson phones. Fortunately, the team has been hard at work since then to bring the popular firmware to as many devices as possible, and HTC EVO 3D owners will be glad to know that they can download a nightly build of CM 9 right now.

The build is currently available only for GSM models of the device, with CDMA remaining unsupported at the moment. Hopefully, as development progresses a little more, it will become available for both varieties of the phone.

Google is currently pushing out a quick follow-up update (v3.8.17) to the new Play Store (v3.8.15) that rolled out a couple of days ago. 3.8.15 brought significant under-the-hood changes, such as support for gift card redemption and wishlists, but 3.8.17 seems to be just a minor bug fixer. I have absolutely no clue right now what problems it resolves, and decoding the apk to compare with the previous version didn't really shine a light in any helpful way. A cursory run through the usual wishlist (no, not that wishlist) suspects produced no results.

Regardless, it doesn't hurt to be running the latest and greatest version of something as important as the Play Store, so hit up the download mirrors below (we verified them as legitimate and signed by Google).

Samsung Releases Kernel Source Code For T-Mobile's Galaxy Note And Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus With ICS

After dropping source code for the Wi-Fi Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus (along with the Galaxy Note 10.1 and Tab 10.1) just last week, Samsung is once again providing eager developers with something to play with over the weekend, releasing kernel source code for T-Mobile's variants of both the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy Tab 7.0 to their Opensource download center.

Both packages carry source code for their respective devices' Ice Cream Sandwich-powered kernels.

Those looking to grab a handful of fresh source code and begin tinkering with the T-Mobile connected Galaxy Note and Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus need only click through the appropriate link below to grab the download.

[Update: Newer Firmware] Samsung Galaxy S III Jelly Bean Firmware Leaks With New Notification Bar And Google Now, Available To Download Now

We saw a video yesterday of a Samsung Galaxy S III running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, with a revamped notification bar and access to Google Now. Fast forward 24 hours, and you can now get hold of that firmware yourself to try it out on your very own Galaxy S III.

Update: A newer firmware I9300XXBLH4 got leaked over at XDA by Samsung-Updates.com. It's an OTA (meaning incremental update) that applies directly on top of I9300XXBLG8/I9300OXABLG8/I9300XXLH1.

The folks at SamMobile have managed to get hold of the image, which is a slightly different build to the one shown in the video yesterday.

"Wait, didn't the Rezound just get an OTA update to build 4.03.605.1?" is something you may be asking yourself right now. And the answer to that is yes. Yes it did. We assume that build was some sort of soak test, however, as it hasn't actually started rolling out en masse just yet, and Verizon has been completely silent about the whole thing.

But this build is one more. Point one more, to be exact; so... we figure it fixes something. There's no changelog, so it's hard to say exactly what that something may be. Alas, it's one less broken thing, so be happy about that.

Script Kitty has actually been around for a while, but after receiving its 2.0 update last week, it's now a serious contender for one of those must-have apps (at least for anyone with an ssh-enabled server). I downloaded and set it up in a matter of a few minutes (including generating an RSA key for key-based auth and adding said key to a few Linux servers), and now have a stupid easy way of doing certain things very quickly without having to even resort to ConnectBot.

What is Script Kitty?

Here's the gist: if you have repetitive tasks, such as checking available disk space or quickly restarting apache on all your servers, Script Kitty is the app for the job.

Combine 3G/4G And WiFi To Download (And Destroy Your Data Cap) Faster Than Ever

For most people, you can probably pull a 3G/4G connection of a few megs. Alternatively, if you're somewhere with WiFi (such as at home), you can probably pull a few more megs. But the two are mutually exclusive - that is, if you're using one, you can't be using the other. Or rather, they were - because now, thanks to Super Download, you can run both simultaneously.

Obviously, the app could provide you with some pretty impressive speeds, but it's still in the early beta stages. As such, even the paid version costs the Play Store minimum of $0.99 - quite the steal as it is, and with the price likely to go up as the app matures, it seems like a good time to snag it.

'PIE UI Revisited Silver Dark' Is A Custom UI That Reminds Us Why Android Is Awesome

MyColorScreen is a site where Android enthusiasts can show off the sometimes stunning UIs they design with various apps and mods. Most of what you come across on the site is fairly predictable; a different widget here and a custom wallpaper there. Although, on occasion someone creates something truly wonderful, and the new PIE UI from AdamF is definitely one of those.

The PIE UI theme is a unique UI that takes advantage of a number of apps like WidgetLocker, Nova Launcher, and Power Widget. The creator of the theme has hosted a .zip file you can download that has all the necessary files (but not the apps themselves) to recreate the interface as shown.
