We've known that Sony has been gearing up to launch a smaller version of its new Xperia Z1 flagship, but leaks were all we had to go on. Well, while you were busy not being in Japan, Sony announced the Xperia Z1f at a DoCoMo event in the land of the rising sun. Don't judge it by its size – this is not just another mid-range device.
The Z1f is built around a 4.3-inch 720p display, which works out to 341 pixels per inch.
It's probably not the water-cooled superphone you've been looking for, but Japanese smartphone maker NEC announced the succinctly named Medias X 06E for the NTT DoCoMo network today, the world's first smartphone with a CPU cooled by H2O. Unfortunately, the specs are decidedly middling, and NEC intends to market the device as a "lady's" phone in essentially the same vein as HTC with the Rhyme.
The Medias X 06E packs a quad-core Qualcomm processor clocked at 1.7 Ghz, a 4.7-inch 720p OLED display, and a 13.1 megapixel camera.
The Optimus G on Japan's Docomo network is an interesting device, as it ships with a mandatory access control system that basically prevents remounting system, reading boot, executing tasks with root privileges, and things of that nature. Thus, the root process for this version of the Optimus G was a tricky one.
A backdoor found by Android hacker giantpune will be used, which allows the bootloader to be unlocked, a modified boot.img to be flashed, and some security features to be disabled – ultimately allowing root access to be achieved.
If you didn't quite make it to Daily Steals' awesome deal a couple of days ago and still want to get your hands on an unlocked Galaxy Nexus at a crazy discount, Negri Electronics has you covered.
The online electronics dealer is offering the 16GB unlocked Galaxy Nexus for just $459.99. It's worth noting though, that the units being sold by Negri have NTT Docomo branding (meaning a teeny tiny logo near the bottom of the backplate).
Although the official launch of Google and Samsung's first Ice Cream Sandwich phone is still a few hours away, Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo has prematurely confirmed the existence of the Galaxy Nexus. In a tweet sent out a few hours ago, @docomo stated that it would be "among the fastest" to launch the handset, when it becomes available in November.
Rumours have already surfaced indicating that Google's latest flagship phone will come to Verizon on November 10th and will cost $299.99.
