[Deal Alert] Amazon Drops Verizon's Droid DNA To A Penny For New Contracts And Upgrades

If Verizon's HTC One kind-of announcement just didn't do it for you because you can't stay away from the red-and-black-themed Droid line, Amazon has HTC's next best offering on the table for a solitary penny. Of course we're talking about the Droid DNA, the undeniable king of Big Red's Droid lineup for the time being.

Despite the fact that the DNA was released back in November of last year, its spec sheet is still a fairly impressive one:

  • 5-inch Super LCD3 at 1920x1080 (440 PPI)
  • Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16GB built-in storage
  • 8MP rear shooter, 2.1MP front camera
  • 2020mAh battery
  • Android 4.1.1 with Sense 4+

Sure, it doesn't have BOOMSOUND, Zoes, Ultrapixels, or other buzzwords – but c'mon, it's got its own now-famous red eye and a DROID logo, and it's only a penny.

DROID DNA Ends The Disappearing Act At VerizonWireless.com While LG Lucid Goes Missing [Updated]

Earlier today, the DROID DNA disappeared from VZW's site. This, combined with all the Verizon-bound HTC One rumors, prompted some in the Android community to wonder whether such a One variant is almost upon us - after all, why would Big Red take down one of its most powerful smartphones so suddenly? The vanishing act didn't last long, however, as the DNA just returned, seemingly alive and well:

Sony Digital Network Applications (Sony DNA) today announced Motiongraph – an app that aims to make the creation of cinemagraphs fast and easy for Android users. A cinemagraph, for those who don't know, is a still image with one or two minor elements animated (you can see some great examples here). They're a fascinating medium that can only be achieved digitally, and which have an eerie yet fascinating aesthetic.

Sony's app looks to give users more consistent and controlled results with a simple "rubbing" interface in which areas to be animated are identified by simply highlighting them with your finger.

Verizon And HTC Announce November 13th Event, Of Course It's The DROID DNA

The DROID DNA (or DLX ... or DIX) is a phone we've seen running around in leaked photos and Verizon MAP spreadsheets for some time now, but the date of an official launch has generally been elusive. Evleaks suggested early December, and given today's announcement of a Verizon/HTC event next week, that seems to be an increasingly likely timeframe.

The DROID DNA is largely believed to be a DROIDified version of HTC's J Butterfly, a 5" 1080p, quad-core Snapdragon-packing beast of a phone.

Evleaks Shows Off Press Shot Of HTC Droid DNA, Promises Early December Availability

Ever since the HTC J Butterfly was announced for Japan we've been wondering when that glorious 1080p display would be coming to US soil. We've seen leaks that indicate that the internals would be released here in a much more One X-looking case, and we're sure by this point that it will be called the Droid DNA. Now, everyone's favorite Twitter leakster (tweakster?) evleaks has dropped a press shot on us with the familiar name and promising an "early December" availability.
