Latest Thunderbolt "Release Date" Shot Down

You can chalk up another false rumor on the list of "impending releases" for the HTC Thunderbolt. The latest speculation to be debunked is that the March 10 date that had been teased is a no-go, according to a leaked Verizon chart picked up by Droid Life. The internal memo shows the much-delayed Verizon phone falling sometime after the iPad 2 launch (which is March 11).

This news makes sense, as, despite the anticipation for the first 4G phone on Verizon's LTE network, the iPad 2 launch would likely take priority with Big Red. The chart below, highlighting the launch of Apple's latest tablet, clearly shows the order of launches Verizon has planned:

To add another rumor to the list, our sources are telling us the end of March will be the real release date (possibly landing on the 24th).

Among all the Thunderbolt delay rumors, here comes the latest one from the Roseville Best Buy #129. Their Twitter account, currently followed by 372 people, tweeted a few hours ago that the launch has been delayed further than we were anticipating - till Thursday, March 4th.

If true, this means earlier rumors of the February 24th and 28th launches will have turned out to be false, arousing even more suspicion around the reasons behind such a disastrous release of Verizon's first LTE handset. Are there last-minute problems with the LTE network? With the device itself? We don't know, but our curiosity sure is peaking.

HTC Thunderbolt DELAYED By Verizon, New Launch Date To Be Decided

Some internal document sent somewhere at some point today was captured by someone and then sent on to Droid-Life, and the news it contains isn't going to be making anyone particularly happy:

Here's the deal: the Thunderbolt won't be launching on the 14th (next week). Amazon and Best Buy apparently had it wrong, and Amazon has since updated its page to reflect that unknown launch date.

The Thunderbolt's Mobile Hotspot feature has also been pushed back, but I would assume this is merely to accommodate the device's new release date. The XOOM also got a mention - something about a delay with the "creative" for the device, I presume this is in reference to advertisements and kiosks and such (correct me if I'm wrong on this, commenters).

The most widely rumored upcoming Android device without any physical evidence of its existence is, without a doubt, the Samsung Nexus 2 (which also goes by the name Nexus S) - even its picture presented above is fake.

Ever since the first time it was mentioned by Androidandme and shortly backed up by RadioAndroid, the whole Androidosphere has been abuzz with the next Google managed device for one simple reason: the Nexus One was and still remains the most open Android device on the market. Considering Google killed the crowd favorite earlier this year, any mention of a potential successor was capable of arousing geekdroids across the world even more than Gingerbread itself.

HTC Desire HD & Desire Z Delayed Due To "Google Testing"

Bad news for our European friends: word from retailers is that the releases of the HTC Desire HD and Desire Z have been delayed until the end of the month. Why? The phones seem to be caught up in Google's testing process:

Apparently, both units have failed last minute Google TA (Type Approval) testing which is exactly what was said about the original Desire days before release!

Users from all over Europe (and even an Israeli) on XDA-Devs have confirmed the delay, with the revised release dates varying based on location. In every case, though, the dates are in the latter part of the month.

If there is one game on Android that keeps me coming back to it, even after I already beat all the levels, it's Angry Birds. The beta version, limited to 15 levels, was released about a month ago and proved to be a completely undeniable success, reaching 250k downloads in only 4 days. The game is so addicting that beating your own high scores can become a full time job to some. My wife, who never-ever played games before, mobile or any others, is now so hooked on Angry Birds that she steals my phone the minute I get home.

LG: "Froyo Isn't Good Enough For Our Tablet, We'll Wait For A More Suitable Version Of Android"

It's been so long off the radar that you can be forgiven for forgetting about it, but LG has had plans to release an Android tablet originating all the way back in July. The original release was set to be sometime in Q4 of 2010, but it's just been pushed back indefinitely when an unnamed official at LG commented:

We plan to introduce a tablet that runs on the most reliable Android version ... We are in talks with Google to decide on the most suitable version for our tablet and that is not Froyo 2.2.

This sentiment certainly resonates with what we have heard directly from Google before, and it leaves Samsung in the awkward position of having made a massive push to release a tablet on a platform that other large manufacturers are now shying away from.

Notion Ink Adam Faces New Delays, Still Set For 2010 Release

If you’ve been waiting for a high-quality Android tablet… you may just have to wait a little bit longer. Due to investor issues, the Notion Ink Adam tablet has been delayed yet again, with the release date being pushed back to late 2010.

After first unveiling the tablet back in December, Notion Ink received enough money from investors in February 2010, but since then the device has been delayed repeatedly due to a variety of issues. Because of this, several investors have reportedly given up on the tablet, leading to further delays. Fortunately, things could be looking up for Notion Ink – in early June, they secured a new investor, and seem to have enough money to keep the project going.

HP Cans Android Slate Tablet For webOS Slate Tablet, Promptly Reminds Us That They’re HP

All Things Digital is reporting that HP’s planned Android Slate tablet has been delayed, possibly indefinitely. Given HP’s recent acquisition of Palm, it seems likely that HP is choosing to focus on development of their webOS tablet to compete with Apple’s iPad as quickly as possible. From a business standpoint, HP is probably making the right move. For Android and open source fans, though, this is indeed a sad day.

Despite HP’s less-than-perfect reputation for hardware quality, the Slate platform is definitely the slickest-looking tablet this side of the iPad, and Android would have benefited from a wide-release, US market tablet.

Droid Incredible Delays Continue Due To Shortage Of AMOLED Displays

Although it’s been almost a month since the Droid Incredible made its debut, many people are still waiting for their new phone to arrive amid a plethora of delays.

Verizon’s CEO, Lowell McAdam, has said that the delay is due to higher than expected demand for the device, after being sold out just hours after release on Verizon’s web store.

The main cause of the delay is the AMOLED display, which is produced by Samsung. McAdam said that Samsung have increased production of the display, and demand should be met within 30 to 60 days.

With Samsung’s AMOLED display in high demand, manufacturers may have to contend with similar supply shortages for quite some time, as more high end smartphones hit the market.
