Want to stuff a couple of stockings for the holidays? Here's a cool suggestion from Amazon: the Kindle Fire HDX 7" 4G LTE. This is last year's Kindle Fire generation but still the newest HDX 7" available — Amazon didn't update the HDX 7" line when it released the new HD 6, 7, and HDX 8.9" this past September. The 4G LTE models are being discounted 50% today only through Amazon Gold Box, while the regular Wi-Fi only models have kept their regular price.
Update 12/7/14: The deal is back today.
Samsung is really the only game in town if you want an Android slate larger than 10-inches. The Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 is a pricey device, though. The retail figure is $649.99, but it usually sells for $549.99. You can get it for more than $200 less on eBay right now, provided you don't mind a refurbished unit.
The Tab Pro 12.2 is rocking a 2560x1600 LCD, an Exynos 5 Octa processor, 3GB of RAM, and a 9500mAh battery.
Google seems to be making a final push to get people buying Chromecasts before Christmas. If you buy one between today and December 21, you'll get a $20 Google Play credit to buy some new movies to stream on your TV. They don't make it too clear, but it appears you will need to buy from the Play Store to redeem this offer. Update: As commenter SEJ326 points out below, Chromecasts from both Amazon and Best Buy are also eligible for the offer.
Play Store users can get 5 SEGA games at significant discounts for a limited time, each at $0.99. These are part of the larger set of apps, games, and media on sale in the Play Store's weekly deals collection.
What's better than one deal? Several deals. If you approve, you should check out Amazon's Gold Box offers today for discounts on a plethora of Bluetooth speakers. You could save anywhere from $12 to $152 or more, depending on which speaker(s) you pick.
The biggest savings are on the TDK Life on Record TREK Max A34, a rugged, weatherproof speaker with an IP64 rating, additional Aux-In input, and a microphone (to serve as a speakerphone).
PlayLater lets you record online video on a PC and save it for later use. PlayOn takes that content and makes it viewable on your TV or mobile device. The latter can help you find shows available online and, as long as you have the requisite subscriptions (to Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc.), get you up and running.
Altogether, these are good tools for cord cutters to add to their digital utility belts.
The hour is upon us, but it may be more like the minute. Motorola is accepting sign-ups for its Cyber Monday Moto X deal, and it's sure to go very, very fast. It's supposed to run from 11AM CST to 5PM CST, but supplies are limited. It's also a US-only deal.
You may have had high hopes for the Nexus 9 only to read our review (along with many other sites') and have decided that maybe it isn't the slate for you. But maybe you still want something larger than last year's Nexus 7. Perhaps you prefer how Samsung goes about making hardware. If either of these are true, then listen up.
For Cyber Monday, Best Buy is selling new Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4's for a little less than the price of used or refurbished models elsewhere.
