[Deal Alert] Sony Xperia XZ is now $449.99 on Amazon ($200 off)

One tradition with Sony smartphones is that they are nearly always overpriced at launch. Sony's latest flagship, the 2016 Xperia XZ, was no exception - it started at a whopping $699. Although the official MSRP has been marked down to $649 since then, you can now get it from Amazon for just $449.99.

[Deal Alert] LG V20 on sale for $499.99 ($300 off) via B&H today only

Your options are limited if you want a newer phone with a removable battery. The LG V20 is a match, but it's spendy. Carriers are asking $700-800, and the unlocked version on Amazon is not much cheaper. However, B&H has the US unlocked phone on discount today. You'll pay just $499.99, but the price goes back up tomorrow.

The world is moving beyond the venerable microUSB cable. USB Type-C is where it's at, and that means you'll need to replace your cables. [Deal Alert] Sony Xperia X Compact drops to just $350 ($150 off) at Amazon and Best Buy

Back around the time of the Galaxy Nexus, I recall a counter-culture developing, calling for an end to the insanity of oversized phones with screens as big as 4.7 inches. They wanted a smaller alternative, built for human hands and human pockets. While the itty bitty smartphone committee might have lost the good fight in a general sense, they now have a few more options, including the Xperia X Compact. Its screen is only 4.6 inches. Hey, it's the principle that counts.

[Deal Alert] Goo Saga down to 0.10, possibly available internationally

Most of the time, the 0.10 deals we report on are limited to a very specific subset of countries (such as the UK, Italy, France, Russia, etc), but this week it's different. Goo Saga is on sale for 0.10, and as far as we can see, this one's international; even the United States is included.

Goo Saga is a pretty fun little platformer, all things told. The story goes that the little elastic-y creature you control, Goo, is looking for his creator, and more generally the meaning of life. The gameplay is addictive and the graphics are pretty damn delightful. All told, for 0.10 (or equivalent in your country's currency) this is a great deal.

[Deal Alert] Get a free Moto Z Droid or half price Moto Z Droid Force (after Verizon credits) at Best Buy

Motorola took a leap with the Moto Z this year by focusing on the modular accessories known as Mods. That meant a few design sacrifices had to be made, including a small-ish battery on the Moto Z and a non-ergonomic flat back panel. I don't think these phones stand up to the competition at full price, but at half price or free, it's hard to complain. That's the deal at Best Buy right now for the Verizon-branded versions.
