Gather 'round external storage lovers. You've been forsaken by Google, abandoned by Samsung, and left to feel needy and irrational in the face of the totalitarian internal-storage-or-nothing regime, but the times they are a-changin'. Google's own stance in Android M seems to be shifting toward accepting all phones no matter what they are, including the imperfect little information carriers that may need an external boost in their storage every now and then. Who knows, we might even live to see a Nexus with a MicroSD slot again. Read More
If you own a Chromecast or Nexus Player and grabbed a free rental from Play Movies last time the deal was offered, it looks like you can head to chromecast.com/offers and grab another.
After opening up the Dads & Grads sale, Google has apparently reset the free rental deal, which gives Chromecast and Nexus Player owners the chance to select a movie to rent from the Play Store. Read More
Amazon likes to offer freebies every now and then on its Appstore. Aside from the daily gratis app or game, it runs regular huge promotions where it usually discounts over $100 worth of software to the awesome price of nada. Nil. Zilch. That's the case today with a mega deal lasting until May 16th 11:59PM PST.
The offer includes more than thirty apps and games, which total over $110 in their regular listing price. There are also kids games, office utilities, and various applications for photo editing, finance management, language learning, and more. Read More
I have tried more than a dozen Bluetooth earbud form factors, but the one I absolutely love for everyday use is the Jaybird Freedom Sprint / Plantronics Backbeat Go 2 design. Two small earbuds, one wire, and all the freedom you can think of. It's less cumbersome than the dog tag design (à la Jabra Tag) and lighter to carry around than the necklace style (think Samsung's Gear Circle or LG's Tone series). And when you have something like the Freedom Sprint, you simply wrap up the small wire and put it in a pouch, pocket, or purse and you're good to go whenever you need it. Read More
Even though it is over a year old, the 10.1 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro is still an impressive tablet. Its hi-res 2560x1600 display paired with a 1.9GHz Samsung Exynos 5 Octa processor gives this device more pixels and power than almost any other Android tablet on the market – even those that are much newer.
At launch, the asking price for the device was a cool $500. If you were tempted to buy one then, but decided to hold off then congratulations, your patience has been rewarded. GameStop has the white 16GB model of the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 marked down to just $249, a full 50 percent off retail and $90 less than what it's listed for on Amazon. Read More
The announcement of Samsung's new Galaxy Tab A didn't generate much excitement because of its not-so-low-end price. However, you can now grab it more cheaply at Best Buy. You will receive $100 for trading in a working tablet so long as you also purchase the Tab A, which starts at $230. There are a few caveats to look out for, though.
Why yes, that is a whole lot of fine print. Let's break it down.
- The $100 comes in the form of a $50 coupon towards the Tab A and a $50 Best Buy gift card. It isn't specified whether you can use the gift card at checkout.

The items ship free with Amazon Prime or with a purchase of $35 or more. Read More
Samsung's first aluminum clad smartphone, the Galaxy Alpha, launched last fall on AT&T ushering in a new, more premium design language for Samsung. The phone was well liked by Ryan Whitwam in his review, but the big sticking point was the asking price, which initially was over $600 on AT&T. A few months have passed since the launch of the device, and the cost has fallen substantially. The price is now low enough to perhaps justify another look for those who can't bring themselves to shell out a $7-800 for the Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge. And it's getting even lower thanks to an eBay deal on the unlocked AT&T Galaxy Alpha for $250. Read More
If the Moto 360 price drops from two days ago aren't sweet enough for you, it looks like Best Buy is offering an in-store deal that could be even better if executed correctly.
Until April 18th, Best Buy will give in-store customers $100 off the Moto 360 when purchased with any Android phone. The key word here of course is "any." According to one tipster, this even works with inexpensive prepaid devices. (This particular tipster went the extra mile, combining the deal with a USPS movers coupon and a .edu discount, for a final cost of just $118 plus tax for the 360 with a steel band.)
If you've been on the fence about getting a Moto 360, this seems like a pretty good deal. Read More
I've been a long-time fan of Blu phones - they are, generally speaking, solid handsets for the money. Whether you're looking for an affordable daily driver for yourself, a backup, or a cheap alternative for someone else, I feel like Blu is a great place to start the search.
Today, Amazon is offering a good deal on one of Blu's older handsets, the Advance 4.0, for just $50 as part of its Goldbox deal. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a super-expensive phone in the first place - it retails for something like $90. And as you'd expect, the specs aren't anything to really be impressed by:
- 4-inch 480x800 display
- Dual Core Mediatex MT6572 1.3GHz processor
- 512MB RAM
- 4GB Storage, microSD card slot
- 5MP rear shooter, VGA front camera
- Android 4.2
Like I said, it's nothing to get excited about. Read More
