Update: It's live now in the Play Store. Get it!

A major update is coming to everyone's favorite zombified first person shooter for Android. You want more blood? More guns? More zombies? More awesome? Check, check, and check.

Madfinger packed DT's first big update full of fun stuff - everything from chainsaws to repeating rifles, there are even more ways to slay the undead. That's not all, either; there are new environments, new zombies, and even a casino so you can play the slots.

If there's one thing that sets people off upon purchasing or downloading an app (games in particular), it's opening it up and finding it has in-app purchases.

And this is, generally, a good instinct for consumers to have - hundreds, if not thousands of mobile games blatantly take advantage of people's willingness to nickel-and-dime themselves out of money they would have never otherwise spent buying a game in the first place.

Once in a while, an Angry Birds or Temple Run comes along in the mobile gaming sphere. Games that are able to hook you with their simple but endlessly entertaining mechanics, and an ability to immediately "dive in" to the game at any time, even if for just 5 minutes (or 3 hours).

The problem with those games is that they're generally aimed at an audience that has never played video games, or has but doesn't actually love them.

Last Updated: July 13th, 2012

I have personally been waiting for Dead Trigger to land in the Play Store since it was first announced at the beginning of June. It was originally supposed to be out yesterday, but due to some last minute bug fixes and additional enhancements, Madfinger pushed the release to today. Now, the wait is over: Dead Trigger is now available in the Play Store!

Update: This is universal - it will work for both Tegra and non-Tegra devices.

Zombies: flesh-eating, mindless ex-humanoid beings with an insatiable lust for carnage. If you love those ultra-violent dirty beasts as much as I do, then you've undoubtedly been waiting with bated breath for the new Madfinger (of Shadowgun fame) first person shooter Dead Trigger. And now, the wait is [almost] over.

For the unaware, Dead Trigger puts you behind the gun in the ongoing unholy war against the undead - it's kill or be killed eaten in this post-apocalyptic action-horror thriller.

Tegra3-23

NVIDIA has been working hard to bring a console-like gaming experience to portable device that feature the Tegra 3 superchip. Shadowgun was the first title to really break that barrier, and the experience has only gotten better since then. Games like Dark Meadow and Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II now set the standard - and that's a high bar to reach in the mobile space.

Today, though, NVIDIA has taken the wraps off of five all-new Tegra Zone games designed specifically for the 4-plus-1 core Tegra 3 processor: Dead Trigger, Puddle THD, Demons' Score THD, Bounty Arms, and Heroes Call.

Oh. My. God. Madfinger games - the same game dev firm that brought us Shadowgun - just announced a new game for Tegra 3 devices called Dead Trigger, and it looks amazing.

Awesome graphics? Check. First-person shooter action? Check. ZOMBIES? Check. This game has it all!

It has all the features that you would expect from Madfinger:

  • Stunning graphics with advanced lighting and post-process effects
  • Full 3D characters and environments with an unprecedented level of detail
  • High quality 3D audio and a lively music soundtrack
  • Character animations recorded using high-end motion capture
  • Intuitive controls
  • Spectacular ragdoll effects

Unfortunately, there's no word as to when the games is expected to release, only that it'll be hitting the Tegra Zone "soon."

And soon can't come soon enough.
