Thanks to our two-dozen (or so) previous book giveaways, you probably now know how to develop for Android. If so, it's probably time to kick your game up to the next level by mastering application security. Luckily for you, O'Reilly Media recently published a new book on the topic, titled "Application Security for the Android Platform: Processes, Permissions, and Other Safeguards." Written by Jeff Six, the book is a concise (112 page) treatise on the subject.
Creating an aesthetically pleasing home screen for your phone or tablet has become an art in itself, and an entire ecosystem packed with widgets, themes, wallpapers, launchers, and custom ROMs has built up to support it. Sometimes, it can be tough to find a winning combination of elements to create a beautiful and enduring home screen that provides both form and function.
For this reason, we have decided to open up a monthly call for gorgeous, well-decorated home screens of all shapes and sizes. Each month we will select the very best home screen configurations and completely break them down into their component parts, providing you with all the necessary information to create your own awesome home screen.
Now that the holiday season has drawn to a close, a lot of you probably have shiny new Android-powered gifts you're struggling to put down for more than 30 seconds. That also means your brand-new toy might not yet have a case - and we're here to help. Our friends at Amzer have graciously provided 50 of their awesome phone cases to help protect your Android device from the many dangers it will face throughout its life.

Another day, another giveaway. Today, we're holding another one of our "lightning" giveaways, which will continue until tomorrow, December 18th at 11:59PM PST. For your consideration, we have two Archos tablets: the Archos 80 G9, and the 101 G9. Both come in the 8GB "Classic" trim and are equipped with TI OMAP4 1GHz dual-core processors, Android 3.2 Honeycomb, and allow for up to 7 hours of video playback. They're both equipped with kickstands as well, so there's no need to go buy a costly tablet folio to enjoy some hands-free video watching. We're giving away one of each model, brought to you by our friends at Archos.
