[Editorial] We Do Not Need 'Amazon Coins' (Or Any Virtual Currency)

The scene: a board room. Ominous and shrouded in mystery, all that can be seen is a long, black glass desk and on either side, twelve featureless chairs. In each sits a grumpy old person. The rest of the chamber is a dark, empty void. Out of the abyss a lone man appears, approaching the head of the table. He's adorned in blue jeans, a white dress shirt and a dark blazer. The brightest light in the room is the reflection on his head.

"Ladies and gentlemen," he says. "As you are no doubt aware, our earnings for last quarter were less than optimal.

[New Game] Race Through City Ruins And Annihilate Mutants In Glu Mobile's Mutant Roadkill

Challenging players to "race through an apocalyptic wasteland overrun with mutants and other hazards," Glu Mobile recently released Mutant Roadkill to the Play Store.

As its name would suggest, Mutant Roadkill is a driving game (of sorts). The primary objective is to navigate the streets of an utterly destroyed, abandoned city, running over as many hapless mutant zombie creatures as possible while avoiding collisions with debris including other cars.

Building on this simple premise, the game offers powerups, combo bonuses, and upgrade-able cars. Players can earn coins in-game, or (of course) buy them via in-app purchase. Players can also gain powerups by completing special missions (for instance driving 2 miles without hitting a mutant, or activating 2 powerups in the same run).

[New Game] Running Fred Pits You Against A Gauntlet Of Gory Death Traps As You Flee From The Grim Reaper

Begin with a Sonic the Hedgehog base. Add some splatter cinema, mix in a bit of parkour, garnish with an electric guitar and serve free. That's the recipe for Running Fred, a runner game starring a ginger down on his luck named Fred who's being chased by Death. Death's pretty cool about the whole killing Fred thing, though. He provides you a nice tutorial and even gives Fred the chance to escape. If he can survive the gauntlet of brutal traps, that is.

As you run through the various dungeons, you collect coins that allow you to purchase upgrades, abilities, and costumes.

[Review] Super Drill Panic Takes You Back To 1992; Also, The Center Of The Earth

A new round of games that incorporate one of my favorite Android services, OpenFeint, has recently been released. We've gotten our all-too-idle hands on several of these games and, let me tell you, some impressive things are being brought to the table.  While flipping through the games and wasting all of my time, one game stuck out to me. Maybe it was the nostalgic feel of it. Maybe it was the Indiana Jones throwback feeling of it. Maybe it was because I really like being able to flaunt my high score to the world. Whatever the reason, I'm a big fan of this game; so much so, in fact, that I made a video of me playing and talking about it.
