Earlier this week, we posted the slightly unfinished Android 4.2 keyboard with Swype-like gesture typing and pretty blue glow (which we since took down at Google's request). Thanks to the recent Android 4.2 system dump from the Nexus 4, some new goodies are now available for pre-4.2 versions of Android. Namely the release version of the keyboard and the new Clock app that Ron is already in love with. Read More
Part of the fun of custom ROMs is seeing how devoted developers improve upon the stock Android experience. Yesterday, we saw a fantastic example in the graphing calculator that's been released to the Play Store and will soon be integrated into CM10. Now, the team is bringing a new improvement to the stock clock app: stopwatch and timer features.
Screenshots taken during development. Actual features may appear different (in fact, almost certainly in the case of the left shot). Read More
The portable Bluetooth speaker market is rapidly heating up, and one of our favorite designs in recent memory in the super-portable range was the Geneva Model XS. It's sleek, minimalistic, and so retro. Unfortunately, one crippling design flaw (along with some strange control choices) means this $250, almost art-like speaker / clock-radio just doesn't work in the real world.
The flaw? The hinge on the outer case is made of like, paper-thin plastic. Read More
KF Software House recently introduced a solution for the more time-constrained Android users among us, releasing App Timer Mini to the Android Market. App Timer Mini (ATM) does exactly what you may expect after reading its name. The app allows users to observe and track how long they spend using certain apps by placing a handy timer in the corner of your screen.
App Timer Mini's functionality is just as simple as it should be – users can select apps to be monitored, and customize the timer's aesthetics. Read More

There are dozens of alternative alarms out there, but ever since I discovered WakeVoice way back in November, it's been my favorite. The biggest reason: I can lay in bed for a few minutes after I wake up and not feel bad about it since WakeVoice reads me the weather and news (it can also read your horoscope and, depending on your phone, your calendar). The app uses the stock Android speech synthesis voice, but third-party voices are linked from within the app and can be purchased. Read More
Clock widgets, clock livewallpapers - when will we have enough of them? Never, I say! Every once in a while, a new clock variant comes out that pushes the limits of originality, and I think this is what we have here today with Text Clock Pro.
If you've been in an English fanatic's kitchen, there's a chance you might've seen a bunch of word magnets on their fridge which you can assemble into sentences. Read More
This probably isn't going to be nearly as exciting as the title might lead you to believe - though it's good news nonetheless.
Techfrom10's Samsung Galaxy S was accidentally given access to the test Android Market via an OTA update, and they stumbled upon some goodies while using it. The Market itself has undergone no noticeable changes aside from the addition of the "Content Rating" information publishers are now asked to include as part of their submissions to the Market, so there's not a lot to see on that end. the iPhone MIUI should be happy to hear that Beta 1 of MIUI Weather has been released to the public, and can now be downloaded in APK form. It looks every bit as beautiful as what we've come to expect from MIUI, and is done in a style to match other MIUI offerings (namely, the browser, ROM, and clock).
The app does have geolocation, but users need to download different APKs depending on their region - for example, there's an APK specifically for Europe, and there are 5 for the US (broken up alphabetically). Read More
In late December, XDA member marc22 requested that the beautiful clock widget from the Cowon D3 be recreated in APK form. It took nearly a month, but user rsmartin managed to come through with shining colors. Check it out for yourself:
In typical Android fashion, user lesa0208 took what Bob began with and built upon it, adding some new color choices.
Quite gorgeous, isn't it? At this point, the widget is only available in APK form, and can be found in the official thread. Read More
