Google Offers Some Android-Centric Holiday Cheer With 'Happy Holidays' Video, Digital Cards

If you aren't quite feeling the holiday spirit yet, Google has decided to lend a hand with a few holiday-oriented offerings focused on our favorite green robot.

The official Nexus page on Google+ shared a few "Happy Holiday Cards" this evening, depicting Bugdroid hanging out with some arctic pals sitting by a fire, having a party, ice skating, and – of course – playing with Android-powered phones and tablets. To download the full-resolution cards or share with friends, just click through to the original post, linked below.

Google also published a video titled "Happy Holidays from Android" which shows how a few tablets can brighten even the loneliest robot's holiday.

You Better Watch Out: Dead Trigger Gets A Christmas-Themed Update, With New Boss, Arena, And Weapon

Ah, the holidays. Nothing says family togetherness like carols, eggnog, and a horde of ravenous undead monsters trying to gobble your brains like gingerbread. Madfinger's popular zombie shooter Dead Trigger has been updated once again: after the crowd-pleasing Halloween content, they've gone and added Christmas-themed levels. You'd better hope for some ammunition in your stocking.

In addition to a new North Pole Christmas Arena, you'll get to face off against new boss Zanta. (Zombie Santa? Christopher Moore would be proud.) A shiny new grenade launcher should make his torso shake like a bowl full of jelly, and there are new story missions to while away the cold winter nights.

This rhythm game, a la Guitar Hero, puts you behind the reins of the sleigh, and you have only one hope to bring cheer to all the head-banging girls and boys: pick that ax like Christmas depends on it. Because it does.

If you've ever played a rhythm game, you know how this goes. Hit the notes as they come down the line. I know what you're thinking.

These 28 Android-Powered Spheros Dance The Dance Of Their Robotic People To The Sounds Of The Trans-Siberian Orchestra

Alright, yes. We've spent over a month getting upset because Christmas starts just way too dang early these days. It's December now, though. Is it finally okay to get in the holiday spirit a bit? Cool. Because these Spheros—robotic balls that can be remotely controlled by Android and carry an array of sensors and lights—are beautiful. The company behind the bots choreographed these 28 units to the tune of Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24, as performed by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

For the unaware, the song is a mashup of God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen and Carol of the Bells, originally recorded by Savatage on the album Dead Winter Dead.

You know that scene in Miracle on 34th Street where it's proven in a court of law that Santa Claus exists and is present because a snarky lawyer dumped a bunch of mail on the judge's desk? Well, poor old St. Nick would probably have a much harder go of it proving that he is who he says he is in today's modern world, thanks to your newfangled technology that's all but viciously murdered the art of letter-writing. Fortunately, Amazon has stepped up to fill this void with Amazon Santa, an app that parents can use to let their kids create a wishlist of what they'd like to receive for Christmas.

[Video] Auckland GTUG Wishes Users A Merry Christmas With Android-Powered Light Show

Auckland GTUG, a New Zealand-based Google Technology User Group, uploaded a video to YouTube today demonstrating the power of the Android Open Accessory platform via an impressive Christmas-themed light show.

A product of GTUG's November coding session, the light show is controlled by an Acer Iconia A500 tablet, and the controller app allows for predetermined sequencing of up to 9 channels, and even supports syncing with music. Without further ado, here's the video:

Episode 1 Of Duke Nukem 3D Free For The Next Two Days
