If there's one thing we're all fond of here at AP, it's power on-the-go. Portable chargers, extended batteries -- whatever it takes to keep our gear charged up. There's one issue with all of these options, though: they also have to be charged. Granted, once a portable charger is all juiced up it usually lasts for a while, but wouldn't it be nice to have something that practically juices itself? Enter PowerSkin's upcoming line of solar chargers.

Planned for a February release, PowerSkin will be dropping two new chargers that incorporate solar charging technology, the SolarCharge and KeyCharge. Both names are pretty self-explanatory, but here's the long and short of it:

  • The SolarCharge packs an additional 1000mAh of juice for your phone (doubt that would do much good on a tablet) and should work with Android, BlackBerry, and even iOS devices.

Last Updated: January 16th, 2012

Even though CES technically starts today, there was no shortage of announcements, unveilings, and surprise devices during yesterday's back-to-back press conferences. If you missed out on any of the action and don't have time to dig through ump-teen posts trying to find the best info, here's a quick recap of the hottest things to hit the scene.

Verizon added yet another tablet to its ever-increasing lineup: the Galaxy Tab 7.7. The Tab 7.7 is nothing less than impressive, as it's the first tablet to rock a Super AMOLED Plus display. Pair that with Verizon's LTE network, and you have one smokin' hot device on your hands.

Recon_

Recon Instruments, creators of wearable goggle technology powered by Android called MOD Live that we got so excited about at CES 2011, have officially announced the impending release of an SDK for Android, due for launch in May 2012. Recon also announced Polar, the first app made using the SDK, that connects a Polar WearLink+ heart rate monitor to MOD Live and allows the MOD display to become a "biometric reader that delivers an athlete's heart rate in real time while they ski or snowboard."

For those not in the know, the Polar WearLink+ transmitter is essentially a Bluetooth-enabled heart monitor that can send heart rate information to a variety of compatible applications (in this case, the new Polar app).

Nvidia's CES press conference featured a few people playing Shadowgun together, which was a little puzzling, because currently that's impossible. It turns out they were showing off a new version: Shadowgun: Deadzone. The cool new thing about Deadzone, if you haven't guessed by now, is multiplayer support.

Deadzone is bringing all kinds of bells and whistles to the Shadowgun series. It supports 8 player online multiplayer, gamepads, and voice chat. I think that puts it on par with full-on console gaming. You also get a few new toys to impress your friends with: there's new sprint and roll moves, and, of course, more weapons.

Seems Sony’s making good on its promise to keep churning out Google TV devices – in fact, the company just introduced not one, but two such gadgets.

As of now, we don’t have tech specs for either of the duo, but what we do know is what you see above: both the NSZ-GP9 Blu-ray player (on the left) and the NSZ-GS7 set-top box (on the right) look splendid, and both have seriously overcomplicated names. Additionally, from the looks of it, they’ll support 3D TVs, so if you’re rich lucky enough to have one, I suppose that’s good news. Finally, they’ll both feature gesture and voice control, in addition to the usual Google apps and the following keyboard:

Hey, it’s an improvement over Sony’s last attempt at a Google TV keyboard

Update: According to The Verge, the keyboard is backlit and features – get this – a three-axis motion sensor that should be perfect for gaming.

Sony_Xperia_s

We've been hearing about the Sony Nozomi for a few weeks now, and Sony just officially unveiled the device at CES. it will be known simply as the Xperia S, and shares most of the same guts as the Xperia Ion (announced earlier today), including a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 12MP Exmor R camera, NFC, and Android 2.3.x (will be upgraded to ICS). Unlike the Ion, however, the Xperia S has a smaller 4.3-inch display, though it's still rocking a 1280x720 resolution.

The S will be available in two different colors at its launch in March: black and silver. There's no word on carrier information or pricing at this point, but we'll make sure to let you know as soon as the information becomes available.

NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang outed a new 7-inch Tegra 3 ICS tablet today for a revolutionary price - $249. While we know very little about the tablet right this moment, we do know that it was developed by ASUS and it's not the Eee Pad MeMo ME171 that was unveiled earlier today.

Update: Apparently this device is still in its early days, as it still doesn't even have a name. Or a release date. That's the official word at this moment. We were finally able to get some clarification on what this tablet is. It is the real Eee Pad MeMo ME370T, and the 7" ASUS tablet we posted about this morning was actually the Eee Pad MeMO ME171.

Update 2 - It's Out! We've got the download right here.

Update 1 - Confirmed: Asus says ICS hits at 8pm Pacific time, today!

Here's a bit of news from the Nvidia's CES Press Conference. Jen-Hsun Huang, the CEO of Nvidia, announced that the Asus Transformer Prime is getting its Ice Cream Sandwich update today (January 9th, for those of you in the future).

The Transformer Prime sports an Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, so Huang should have inner knowledge of the TPrime's update schedule. Previously the Prime's Ice Cream Sandwich OTA was set for January 12th, so if Huang is right, it looks like Asus finished up a little early.

NVIDIA's main CES 2012 press event is about to kick off - join us for a live play-by-play below starting Monday, Jan 9th at 4PM.

Update: Due to a PR error, there was a bunch of confusion about the two 7" tablets unveiled by ASUS today. We've sorted it all out:

  • The Eee Pad MeMO ME370T is powered by Tegra 3 - that's the one that was just announced by NVIDIA for $249. It should be available in Q2'12.
  • The Eee Pad MeMO ME171 is powered by a Qualcomm 8260. ASUS told us it will be available in Feb'12 for $299.

Yes, that's right - at just half an inch thick, the Droid 4 is the world's thinnest 4G LTE QWERTY Smartphone. Not only is it ridiculously thin (for a slider), but it also packs some pretty raw power under it's hood. Check out what it has to offer:

  • 1.2GHz dual-core processor
  • 1GB of RAM
  • Android 2.3.5 (Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgradable)
  • 4-Inch "scratch-and-scrape resistant" display
  • 16GB internal memory, Up To 32 GB microSD card supported
  • Full five-row QWERTY
  • 8MP rear shooter with 1080p HD Video Capture
  • 4G LTE Capable (duh)

Note from Cameron: I would like to take this opportunity to put my foot in my mouth.
