Leading up to the launch of the One M8, HTC started posting some of its apps to the Play Store. This arrangement allows it to roll out changes to particular apps without having to issue firmware updates, which is what it has recently done. The HTC Dot View app has gained a number of new features that expand upon the functionality owners of the accessory can tap into.
The update brings in the ability to select your own image to use as the case's wallpaper. Read More
Between a bevy of leaks and no small amount of official previews, LG won't have much to tell us at its press conference next week that we don't already know. The latest official glimpse at the upcoming G3 flagship is the video below, which shows off the "QuickCircle" case, the latest incarnation of a flip case with a touch-through preview window. The idea isn't new, but the shape is: the QuickCircle case uses a large radial display area for basic phone functions. Read More
In case you were getting bored with the already reasonable selection of official Nexus 5 accessories on the Play Store, Google has just slipped in a new series of Google-branded snap cases for the phone, priced at $29.99 and coming in Black, Aqua, Silver, White, and Clear variants.
The cases look pretty sleek, wrapping around the sides and back of the device, adding a Google logo to the back, and leaving the top and bottom edges open. Read More
Throughout Glass' gradual expansion to more and more Explorers, there's been a lot of talk about using the device professionally in demanding environments, particularly healthcare (and firefighting). Wearable Intelligence is a company looking to tackle the former, along with energy industries, by building firmware for Glass that replaces its usual Android installation with one customized to fit the needs of those industries.
Wearable Intelligence says its healthcare solution is HIPAA compliant, and from their promotional video, it looks undoubtedly impressive. Read More
Another week closer to HTC's big New York event, another huge leak from the indefatigable Evleaks. This time he's taken to Google+ to show off what looks like a first-party case for the HTC M8 (a.k.a. "The New HTC One"). This case it unlike any we've seen thus far: instead of a transparent "window" like the ones that Samsung and LG have been using for their flagships, this one appears to be covered in tiny holes, allowing the screen below to flash simple messages. Sticking the HTC One in a case can remove much of the appeal of owning the phone in the first place, as the handset is such a treat to the hands and the eyes. But if you stick it in one of HTC's official accessories, such as the Double Dip hard shell case, and squint, then maybe it retains some of its elegance. Okay, no it doesn't, but now you can get a customized version of HTC's case that can at least speak to your sense of style. Read More
If you have a Nexus 7 or 5, then there's a good chance you've looked at all of El Goog's accessories in the Play Store. There's also a good chance you scoffed at the prices of said accessories, because let's be honest here – they're not cheap.
To make such a purchase easier on your wallet, however, Google has slashed 25% off the prices of most Nexus 7 and 5 cases (including folios and such). Read More
Amid the flurry of new devices quietly launched recently, Google released a new Nexus accessory - a folio case for the Nexus 7 (2013). Despite my varied experiences with Nexus accessories, I'm always eager to see what Google thinks will work best with their devices. I'm particularly interested in tablet accessories. Tablets are meant to be super portable and usable anywhere, so making an accessory that retains the appeal of the device's form factor while also adding some utility is an interesting challenge. There is a growing selection of third party cases already available for the Nexus 5, but Google's offerings, tucked away at the bottom of the Play Store page, are poised to be the first ones many people see. There are two types of cases available: the official bumper case and the LG QuickCover. Liam provided a quick look at the former option already, but what about the latter? It's a solid, snug-fitting case that I strongly want to recommend, but at $49, doing so doesn't come easy. Read More
