As a tech addict who lives in a remote area, Amazon Prime is a godsend for me: getting stuff delivered to my door quickly when it would otherwise necessitate a three hour round trip is well worth the nominal fee. Amazon hopes you'll agree, and to that end they've now included the ability to sign up for an Amazon Prime free trial right in the official Amazon app.

If you qualify for Prime (and just about everybody does), you can sign up for a 30-day trial within the app itself.

Google still hasn't said anything official, but the Nexus 5 is clearly ready for launch. Canadian carrier Wind Mobile has just put up its Nexus 5 pre-registration page on Facebook so interested parties can get on the list to be notified (at some point). Along with the form, we get a nice spec list, which confirms a few things about this device.

It's football time in America, and you know what that means: a mad rush to get all the infrastructure updated in time for opening day. The official NFL Mobile app is getting its first major update since the publisher was switched back in August. A nice list of new features is included, most notably the addition of our neighbors to the north in Canada. Everyone in Canada should be able to access the app with its scores and news, but only Bell Mobile TV subscribers will be able to watch live games.

2013Nexus7-Thumb

The new Nexus 7 is a substantial upgrade over last year's model, as Google has managed to fit a 1080p resolution into the same 7-inch screen without destroying performance or battery life. This year's offering makes the leap to a new Qualcomm S4 Pro N7 processor, comes with a rear-facing camera, and has the latest version of Android available. What could make it any better? Wider distribution. That's why the tablet is now available for purchase in Canada directly from Google Play.

Much has been made of the fact that Motorola's shiny new flagship is made (or at least assembled) in America. But there's a downside to this: it looks as though aspiring Motorola customers in Europe, Asia, Australia, and the rest of the world will have to do without. Motorola has made it clear that the Moto X is only for the US, Canada, and Latin American markets.

That isn't to say that the company is not concerned with the worldwide marketplace.

The updated Nexus 7 has already started shipping early in the US, but our kindly neighbors to the north haven't seen a mass influx of Nexus tablets yet. There is at least a trickle today as Staples, Best Buy, and Future Shop are beginning to show availability.

Staples is still selling orders online with 1-day shipping. Most stores are also showing it as in stock. Best Buy is sold out online, but a few stores still have units available for pickup.

Canada is clearly the best country that borders the US to the north, and it got a little bit better for GS3 owners today. It seems Canadian Galaxy S3s have started receiving updates that bring the fabled Multi-Window mode, among other things.

Owners of the original Galaxy Note in the great white north are getting a little present today – a brand new (year old) version of Android is coming to their devices. Samsung has announced via Twitter that owners will be getting the update starting today on Bell, Telus, and Rogers.

The update is going out over Samsung's Kies program on all carriers, but it looks like OTA updates are occurring as well.

Greetings to our northern neighbors - you cam now buy Samsung's latest flagship device on a variety of Canadian carriers. The Galaxy S4 is available from the standard nationwide wireless providers, Rogers, Bell, Virgin, and TELUS, in addition to MVNOs and regional carriers like Fido, Videotron, Eastlink, and Koodo. Prices range from $199 Canadian with a three-year contract from the "big three" to just shy of $700 for an off-contract model, which is pretty standard for new premium models in Canada.

It's a big day for our neighbors to the north! The HTC One hit store shelves this morning, which is a fairly big deal in itself. If you're not in the market for a new phone (or just aren't into the One for whatever reason), but happen to be looking for a new tablet instead, another outstanding device hit Canadian retailers today as well: the Galaxy Note 8.0.

The Note 8.0 is Sammy's newest entry into the eight inch slate market, which also brings most of the best features from the Note 10.1 and Note II along for the ride.
