Skype To Buy Qik For A Cool $150 Million

Word around the web is that Skype is in the process of purchasing Qik for a cool $150 million. While not expected, the deal isn't exactly surprising, either: Skype is already a major player in the internet phone business, and in 2010, Qik substantially expanded its presence in mobile video calling and streaming. In fact, 2010 was huge for Qik: they expanded their customer base from 600,000 to 5 million users - roughly an eight-fold increase.

Notion Ink Adam Now Available To Pre-Order For The Rest Of Us

While loyal commenters on the Notion Ink blog got the chance to pre-order this morning, the rest of us have been deprived of the privilege until now. Well, you can stop holding your breath now, for the Indian company has just let the rest of the world in on its pre-order page for the 10-inch tablet. The prices have remained the same, but let's recap them anyways:

  • LCD Wi-Fi version: $375.33 (down from $399.99)
  • LCD Wi-Fi+3G version: $425.33 (down from $449.99)
  • Pixel Qi (transflective display) WiFi version: $499.45
  • Pixel Qi (transflective display) WiFi +3G version: $549.99

Unfortunately, all four models are said to be shipping in "6 to 8 weeks," and the fact that the shipping fee is a flat rate of $50, no matter where you ship it to, is starting to make us suspicious.

While the Nexus One has officially been discontinued stateside on Google’s website, it seems Google’s first (and probably only) phone will be headed to the cluttered desks of more Android developers as Android’s newest official developer phone.

N1dev

The Nexus One has clearly enjoyed preferential treatment from the Android team since its release, but the decision to dethrone the Google Ion (aka ADP 2, HTC Magic, MyTouch 3G) is more than anything a statement to third-party developers: Get away from previous generation phones.
