Official Nexus 5 Bumper Case Quick Look: A Distinctive Cover For Your Nexus 5 With Less-Than-Perfect Buttons

Official Nexus accessories are always exciting. Not just because we get to have cool new official toys for our phones, but because Google has such a bad reputation for releasing official accessories (remember that Nexus 10 dock from the holiday video last year?) that when one does become available, it's like a treat.

It is with this in mind that I approached the bright red version of the official Nexus 5 bumper case, and decided to give it a review. Coming into the experience, I didn't expect there to be much to discuss about the case, but it's - somewhat surprisingly - not a "this is exactly you expect" kind of situation.

The White Nexus 4 8GB With Bumper Case Is No Longer For Sale In The Google Play Store, No Case-less Option Available Yet

We've barely had the glossy white version of the Nexus 4 for a month, and now the 8GB model with its matching bumper seems to be gone. The US Play Store was just updated with the message, "Nexus 4 with Bumper (White, 8GB) is no longer available for sale." This isn't like the usual out of stock issue - the product listing looks like it's been retired. The more expensive 16GB white version (with bumper) remains available for purchase, along with both black versions.

We don't know if the 8GB white model is going out completely, or if Google is just running out of its allotment of free bumper cases.

[Update: Annnnd, It's Back] Nexus 4 Bumper Ends Its Rollercoaster Ride Of Availability, Now Listed As 'No Longer Available For Sale'

Update: Oops! Looks like Google classified this one as dead just a bit too early – it's back for a thirtieth go in the Play Store. If you want one, you should probably buy it now before they really do disappear forever.

Shortly after slimming down the Play Store's selection of Nexus 7 cases, it looks like Google has brought out the axe again, this time aiming it at the Nexus 4 Bumper. The bumper, which enjoyed an absolute roller coaster ride during its tenure, finally ended its on-again-off-again relationship with the Play Store today, with no warning at all.

Nexus 4 Bumper Cases Show Up On The Play Store For $19.99, Will Be 'Coming Soon'

The Nexus 4 launches tomorrow on the Play Store and it's sure to be a great day for Android fans everywhere. Of course, this will also be the first time that a Nexus device will have glass on both sides of the handset and traditional cases that cover the rear would make all that sleek engineering pointless. Fortunately, Google has you covered (I'm so sorry). A neat-looking bumper case has just shown up on the Play Store and will protect your $300+ investment for an extra $20.

The case actually looks pretty dang slick and fits in with the design of the Nexus 4 rather well.

Motorola Will Not Be iBashed - Fires Back At Apple's Death Grip Claim With This Gem

When Apple released a widely criticized video of a Droid X death grip last week, Motorola suddenly found itself as a target of what could essentially be interpreted as a smear campaign. Here is the video for those who managed to miss it:

Of course, the video followed a similar smear aimed at HTC's Droid Eris during a recent Apple press conference focused on antennas and reception. Clearly, Apple is not singling anyone out while trying to defend itself. The only problem is it's not comparing apples to apples (oh, the puns) - in fact, I'll leave the explanation to this very sane article by PC World.
