A new update to Google's Maps application is out, but the wait for offline navigation must go on. This is a relatively minor version bump, so we're not going to see the big features mentioned at I/O, but that doesn't mean there aren't still some pretty good things in this release. Amtrak, aiming to give you a "new way to take the train," released an official app to the Play Store recently.
The (logically named) Amtrak app allows passengers to plan their entire train excursion, from buying tickets (which can be displayed right on your device) to navigating to a nearby station, changing/upgrading seat selections, checking train schedules, and using an Amtrak Guest Rewards account.
"Optimized for Android," the app carries a holo-ish interface with swiping tabs, proper navigation and scrolling, and all the visual flair you may expect from an app in line with Android's design guidelines. Read More
Hyatt Corporation, looking to make customers' hotel experience just that much easier, released an official Hyatt app to Google's Play Store recently. The app allows users to find Hyatt hotels across the globe, viewing details about each location, booking, managing reservations, and more, all from their Android-powered device.
Besides a full suite of booking and check-in functions, Hyatt's new app gives users access to weather, maps, and turn-by-turn navigation to their Hyatt destination. Read More
